  • Tom Cruise take 2

I was seriously expecting that last post to have something with that Matt Lauer interview. I heard about it and read about it, but I didn't see it, in part, until I was watching VH1 Best Week Ever.

I didn't really jump into that last TC discussion cause frankly I didn't care either way what he said about religion or Dawson Creek girl. But, when he goes on about how he knows the history of psychology.......well!

I teach junior high special ed emotional, learning disabled and phsically disabled kids (some are all of the above, which is soooo fun).

I do know some of the history he claims to know or read about. I think he is losing his mind. I think KAtie Holmes is getting a brainwashing and Tom Cruise is getting a loony washing. Holy cow....

ANyone see the whole interview??I would have watched it just to see what he hopped on and screamed about, but I didn't know it was even on! Oh, well Late night jokes I am sure will abound. Plus, I am sure SNL will be great tomorrow if it is not a repeat. This comedy writes itself.Well, Tom wrote it :no

I saw the interview this morning---as a repeat on the Saturday Today Show.

I sort of agree with TC in that some things are overdiagnosed which leads to unnecessary medication or overmedication. However, I disagree with him when he says that any reason for medication is wrong. I believe that in some cases, these medications can be appropriately used in the short-term.

I work in a doctor's office and every year (September through November) my poor boss is innundated with "please evaluate for ADHD" requests. Let me just say, I do believe ADHD exists and it is a real psychiatric problem. But I think it's alittle over the top when 50% of a regular 6th grade class is on some kind of ADHD medication as is the case in my godson's class. Anyhow, my boss usually sends these children to be evaluated by a Developmental pediatrician at one of the local Children's Hospitals. About 25% of these children are diagnosed by the Developmental pediatrician as ADHD. The remaining 75% aren't. But my boss isn't the typical pediatrician, because most pediatricians will do the testing themselves and begin treatment, referring to a specialist only if they run into treatment issues and not having one involved from the beginning.

I agree. Fresh air and exercise can replace TONS of the medications that are on the market. And 99% of the time, I don't think any child under age 18 should be on medication for any behavioral or emotional problems.

I don't know anything about scientology or Tom Cruise, so that's as far as I'm going with this. :yes

Unfortunately I have one of those 1% of kids who really need it because otherwise she might have to be committed :no
So I have a lot of empathy for the folks that need to deal with these kinds of issues.

:nod and I would like to add that diet change would be helpful too. Instead of pumping kids full of sugar give them a stick of celery to chew on.

Tom Cruise is an actor. He does not have a degree in anything except how to run through women like toilet paper.

I agree that meds are over prescribed, but I personally know a couple people who eat perfectly and exercise daily who would be lost without meds.

Tom needs to shut his half-baked pie hole.

And would someone please remove the battery from his girlfriend's powerpack????

Actually don't...I have money on them divorcing before Christmas of 2006. Double or nothing the ceremony never happens.
