    http://news.bbc.co.uk/

I guess that this news item will be updated. Reminds me of the bad old days of the IRA bombing in the 70's/80's. I'm trying to get hold of friends and more importantly my brother-in-law who is co-head of Kings Cross station, and I'm having internet trouble picking up streaming news - just typical - would happen on a day like this.
glad I live in the north now after 27 years of being London born and bred. But it's frustrating being so far away.........

I'm really quite scared... they have also evacuated brighton and swindon stations and pulled the public transport... I live in Brighton and my Dad works in London, luckily he is ok, but still concerning...

            Re: London am

All continues normally where I live just outside Reading - less than 50 miles from central London. I don't know if Reading Railway Station is affected - it is one of the principal stops on the main route west to Bristol.

My Brother-in-Law is a British Transport (Railway) Policeman normally based in York but working at the Gleneagles G8 Summit in Scotland. My Mother tells me he is expecting to be on his way to London. They will be looking for experts to inspect track.

This attack will have killed a few, injured a much greater number and put many many thousands through a very uncomfortable, anxious and inconvenient day. In the UK we are rather hardened to Terrorrist so very soon it will be business as usual.

This is a terrible event for those closest to it, but it is no 9/11. In the broad scheme the attempt by the IRA to take out Prime Minister Thatcher and a substantial number of her cabinet at the Conservative Party Conference all those years ago was a much more significant attack.

So in typical British style I say to the fanatics

"Nice try. So you took the opportunity to go for London when we were comitted to the G8 Conference, but we will dust ourselves down and get on with living free in our liberal democracy. But if we catch you . . . "

My husband and I visited London in April (my first, his second). We are both enamored with your lovely city. I was heartbroken this am when I saw the news. I know you will rise above this with grace and pride as you have in the past with the bombings of WWII and other attacks directed toward your historic and beautiful land. Out thoughts are with you.

Rich is ok. He can not go home right now so he is unable to post. He sent me a quick email letting me know he is alright so no one would worry about him. To all my English friends... you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I wondered the exact same thing! I couldn't understand why they were focusing on Africa and global warming (two important world affecting events I know) when we are having so many problems with terrorism and countries who have developed nuclear capabilities.

                            Re: London am

I'm really quite depressed about it all. Thank God, no-one I knew has been directly affected, although after to speaking to friends and relations down there it sounds like it's still pretty chaotic. I've always been proud to be a Londoner (especially since I live with a bunch of "northern monkeys!), but never so much as now.

You guys are also in my thoughts and prayers. I was so disturbed this morning when I saw the news on the internet. The terrorists will try anything they can. I certainly hope this is the end of the bombings. My prayers will be with the families of the deceased and with the injured who will be going through a lot during their recoveries as well as their families. It may not have been a 9/11 but I know it is significant to ya'll there in England.
