Unexplained Pain & Numbness....Any ideas??

For the last week or so, I've had unexplained pain and numbness in my left hand. I can't think of anything I've done. Its loosing strength, too....finding it hard to turn door knobs, pick up my kids, carry things, etc. It doesn't seem to be swollen at all.

I'm an accountant, so nothing physically stressful at work. I was out of town for most of the week and didn't have access to a gym for weightlifting, so didn't hurt it there, although when I went back to the gym this morning it was too painful to lift weights....only did cardio and my hand went numb for the entire hour while I was holding onto the pole-thingy on the elliptical machine.

I'm right handed, so if I was going to hurt one of them I would expect it to be my dominant hand, not my left.

I guess I'll give it another week to see if it goes away, but then planning to go to the doctor. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced something similar.

Any ideas?

Call your doc. Not that I think its anything to worry about and the first thing I thought about was carpal tunnel (is that spelled right) but its something that you shouldn't put off. Isn't your job pretty repetitite and your left hand might be the weaker of the two.
This advise, BTW is from a stupid person who has had a kidney infection for over a week, and hasn't gone to the doctor but treating it with cranberry juice, because my car is in the garage and I don't want to walk the dozen block to the clinic.
As soon as I run out of cranberry juice, the symptoms come back.

Sounds like it could be carpal tunnel. Mine started in my left hand as well, and I am right handed.
Definitely get it checked out though.

I'd agree.
I've just finished at the physiotherapist for a similar problem. My arm was going numb and I was afraid of dropping things and not being able to grip things that I needed to - and this was a rifle and other important things that should never be dropped.

yep... sounds like carpal tunnel.... I have one sis who had to have surgery already.....

the other doing therapy
