A Pakistani man and some of his relatives chopped off his wife's feet after accusing her of being promiscuous, police said yesterday.

The woman survived the gruesome attack, the latest in a wave of assaults that have raised international concern about the plight of women in rural Pakistan.

'It is a shameful act of cruelty against a woman,' said Talat Ali, a senior police official in Punjab.' The 32-year-old woman told police her feet were chopped off on 24 June by her husband, her father-in-law, a brother-in-law and two others after they accused her of being 'of bad character', a euphemism for promiscuous

Apparently there are sadistic $%^&*#@!'s everywhere in the world. Imo, this is one reason these countries will never achieve any position of prominence in the world theater...they "waste" half their human resources by enforcing and believing this age old crap about women being incapable of any functions other than motherhood.

Perhaps the media attention will enable her to get some decent prosthetics and regain her mobility at least.....grrr.

Doubt it Ojakal....In those 3rd world countries, women are still chattel, slaves, property to be treated as seen fit by their husband or male relatives. She will be shunned, an outcast for the reminder of her life. Her feetless legs, an indication to her badness and shame for all the world to see.

In some cultures they even arrange for a certain part of a womans anatomy to be surgically removed when a girl is about 10 or so. Its thought if she doesn't feel pleasure during sex, then she won't be tempted to cheat. Nice culture huh?

And far too many of them. Ritual suicide for w young wife who's older husband dies STILL happens in rural Indai, becaus ehte women know if they don not climb onto the bruning guneral pyer they will be shunned for the rest of their life. There is no spport service like the ones we westerners are so lucky to have. And as for female circumcision - don't start me on it. It is rife in parts of Africa and, I beleive, Muslim Asia, although nowhere in any religion's lore does such a heinous practice occur. It causes infections, scarring that means natural childbirth cannot occur (the muscles cannot stretch) and many women who do struggle through a horrendously painful a natural childbirth die of bleeding. Bet it was thought up by a man.
