  • Harry Potter and book burning

I watched on the news about those folks who were burning copies of Harry Potter and I just don't get it.
First of all, how come I never see anyone burning copies of porn or and worse, kiddy porn. I will lead that band of folks myself. But Harry Potter? It is all so innocent. Do they really think that kids will start believeing in witch craft? Especially kids who have grown up watching TV all their lives. Even the Pope came out against it. OMG, I believe there should be other fights worthwhile fighting.
Although I don't believe in the Magical World, I have it on good authority that not2late does go to the International Quidditch matches every year and is really the new librarian at Hogwarts.

Re: Harry Potter and book burning

I KNOW!!!!!! My oldest daughter could not wait until the book came put. She did not get home until yesterday, so she was too excited about it!! My sister and family are some of those that don't believe in Harry Potter, but they have never read the books or seen he movies. My other cousin asked my sister, because my sister will let her 17 year old son watch Star Wars, but not Harry Potter , what was the difference between the potter "magic" and the "force". No answer.

Open your minds!!!!!!! You have to have an imagination is my theory. My girls and us watch the movies together, and the oldest has read all the books, and she is not trying to conver to Satanism!!!!!

I think that it teaches them that good can beat evil. That is the true story of it all.

I also know someone who thinks that Harry Potter will ruin the minds of her children. It is considered work of the devil.

Go figure? I just dont understand it.

Book burning. Turning otherwise rational people into complete jerks. What is the point in burning Harry Potter books? Or any book period? Just don't read the darn thing. (Now if it has to do with something illegal then it should'nt be allowed to printed period.) I'm reading the Sorcerors Stone to my kids and they have yet to try to fly or hex me. The books are basically good vs evil, the magic part just makes it that much more interesting to read.

Can I have a job at Hogwarts???? I'd love to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts or Charms. I wouldn't mind my own house elf now that I think about it.

So, I'll bet these book burning people read Snow White to their children, so what about the Magic Mirror? Heck, I watched Romper Room when I was a toddler and that Magic Mirror on there never killed anybody!!!!

Actually, that's just my day job. I make my real galleons as the principal shareholder of the Bertie Botts Magic Bean, Co. LTD.

It's really interesting how Rowling borrowed "mythology" stories from around the world for the HP novels. And since I was a mythology/fairy-folk tale fanatic as a kid, the books still appeal to me.

                    Probably Southern Baptist......or Pentecostal

Where I'm from members of those congretions meet and stand around the fire and throw in records with Satanic lyrics and such. Didn't know Barry Manilow was a devil worshipper(and yeah...they burned his stuff). So book burning of Harry Potter stories would not surprise me.

To each their own I say!

Barry Manilow? Oh yes...that's some a satan worshipper if I ever saw one. Lol. Who's next...the Wiggles? I could see burning something out of sheer irritation but not because I think Satan is behind it. Lol....oh man...I am cracking myself up here. Of course for being Catholic I've already been told I'm on the burning road to h-e-double hockey sticks so maybe that's why ol' Barry Manilow doesn't scare me. (now the Teletubbies scare the pants off me...j/k)

No, because I am Pentecostal. We are not all clones of one another, and most of us do think for ourselves. All of us don't think the same way. Steroetype. My husband is Catholic, and he thinks it is crazy too.

Well, I doubt he's a devil worshipper. I think his records certainly needed burning though. "Mandy" makes my ears bleed.

Well I would have agreed with you on this one a while back Aphex, but after reading those saggy/droopy boobs threads in the Womans forum, I'm thinking NO on the bra burning! Gotta keep those girls from making unauthorized trips south ya know!
