Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Discussion

I just finished the book last night. (My cousin ordered it for me online and it just arrived Thursday while I was at work.) Great book. I love Harry Potter. I own the books and audio books of all of the Potter books. I put them on audio ones on my ipod so I can listen to them while I'm at work. And I re-listen to them all the time depending on what mood I'm in.

I heard that the next book won't be out for years. But, at least the next movie will be out this year. Although I wasn't happy with the last movie. I kept telling my husband in the theater how they left parts out and how it didn't actually happen like that ....

On the other Harry Potter thread, it was mentioned about RAB -
"that I have an idea of who RAB is----Regulus Black, Sirius's
younger brother who joined the DEs early then tried to get
out and was killed by Voldemort (or by Voldemort's command).:

I had no clue who it could be. That's a very good thought. And I do now remember a locket in the 5th book. I'll have to re-read them again to see if I can pick anything else back up. (Although it won't be immediately, my daughter had a hard time even talking to me yesterday since I was engrossed in the book.)

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Discussion

Here's my thought on the matter. In the beginning when you first meet Slughorn, Dumbledore makes mention that it will be his last drink with a very good old friend. This foreshadows the fact that Dumbledore knows his time is coming. That is why he asked Harry if he could have private lessons with him so he could show everything there is to know about Horcruxes and also, about Voldemort. In the end, when Dumbledore is lying on the ground, defenseless, he stares into Severus's eyes, begging him to kill him. We can't hear the actual conversation he has with Severus because they are using Occumelency, which explains the slight pause before the death.

I am a strong believer that Severus is on the good side because he still gave advice to Harry right after he killed Dumbledore down in the feild. And we all know that Severus had to stick to his word with the Black Sisters, since the binding curse would have killed him if he didn't kill Dumbledore. He probably got a hold of Dumbledore and told him about Voldemorts plans before Dumby met up with Harry. Hee hee, I am so obsessed. There is another clue that he's on the good side, right before he signs the binding trio thing, his hand twitches, he doesn't want to do it, but he has to in order to show that he is still "faithfull" to the Dark Lord. I'll add more later, gotta go to work. I love harry!

I also noticed a few times Fawkes was mentioned as singing sadly when he was awake. Did Fawkes know Dumbledore's time was drawing to a close?

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Discussion

I just finished the book cause I was savoring every chapter and while I didn't want it to end, I needed to find out who died. Then I was really sad to see this tread had fallen to the bottom. Well, am bumping it back up
What worries me so much with Dumbledore's death is that there just isn't anyone with his abilities except maybe RAB who must be a greater wizard that the Big D cause he got the locket with the help of another, and that my friends is the only reason that I believe Dumbledore is dead. There has to be someone with powers equal to "V"
On the other hand, Fawkes leaving and the fire surrounding Dumbledore might mean that he will also rise from the ashes. One can only hope.
I think he is dead, as his portrait appeared in his office.
RAB is going to emerge as someone with powers equal to Dumbledore.
What disappointed me was that Ginny agreed with Harry that she should be protected and not join the party. I was hoping that the two of them would become a team, or the 4 of them. Ron seems to be the only weak link there.
I think Ill check out your link Not2late. That might be fun.

Do the portraits only appear there when a headmaster dies or when they leave the school? I can't remember.

Sadly, I think he's really gone too although I keep hoping he isn't and keep trying to find a loophole...lol.

I had another thought about the HBP last night and for the life of me I can't remember what it is. If I remember I'll come back later...this is going to drive me bonkers.

I think Dumbledore is gone too.

But I think Ginny will be back and helping Harry (probably will cradle him in her arms as he lies dying after killing Voldemort )

OMG Megs thats horrible. I see him as the next Dumbledore, head of the school.
I just wonder how JK is going to make him a great wizard in the space of another book. He isn't a great wizard, the only thing is the Team could be great and the team could kill Volly

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Discussion

I was theorizing with my boyfriends sister and I came up with something really cool, well, I had never thought of it before. I am a firm believer that Dumbledore knew he was going to die at the end of the book. Obviously, since he had been showing Harry all these things in the pensieve. There are still some things he doesn't know, correct? He knows enough, but perhaps, inthe next book, he is bound to make an appearance at Hogwarts because of the pensieve. Dumbledore could have taken his memories and perserved them in the pensieve before leaving with Harry to go to the cave, etc. So, Harry can use this to his advantage and help him in the next book. Of course, he will be in contact with Dumbledore through the portrait, but it's arguable that the portraits only say phrases, which I don't believe at all. If Dumbldore can communicate with the portraits on his wall and tell them to do things, etc, then he can help Harry in the journey to find the horcruxes, only through the portrait.

Umm, yeah. Lol. That's all I have to say about that, and I do hope that Ginny joins them, Ilove ginny. Hee hee.

I don't think the portraits only say phrases too. From all the books I've read they seemed more "involved" is the only way I can think to put it. I wish Dumbledores hadn't been sleeping...then we'd know what a Dumbledore portrait does...lol. I like your thinking about the preserved memories Lena...that would be cool!

Yeah, the portraits seem to embody the person. Like Phineas Nigellus Black's portrait in OoP, left his Hogwarts portrait after learning Sirius died. Harry assumed he went to his other portrait to look for Sirius.

I'm sure the pensieve and other things in Dumbledore's office will be helpful. Also any things Snape left behind at Hogwarts will be too.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Discussion

The Potions book, I know that you all ready discussed it, but its obvious that Snape, (lets drop the Professor until we know for sure he deserves the title) is a great wizard.
the Potion book told us that.
I really feel that he is going to come outthe hero in this thing. Could he be RAB? Would JK be introducing a brand new wizard at this point. I just dont think so, her charactors are pretty well established. Well, maybe that is only wishful thinking on my part. There is still something between Snape and Dumbledore that we still do not know. Why the absolute trust. That mystery must be cleared up so we know Snape will not just disapprear.
Geeees can we wait 2 years for the answer?
