Actually it was in an email my mom sent me. Looks real to me. Porcupines can be evil! Poor doggie!

If that happened to your dog, would you stop to take pictures?

          Re: Dog versus Porcupine

Here is the text of the email

Somewhere out there is a naked Porcupine.

Inca apparently did not know when to quit when she encountered
the porcupine on Victoria Day, May 23rd. These are the pictures the
vet sent before the long (and expensive) procedure to remove the
          quills..

She had thousands of quills, and her tongue was so covered, she
could not close her mouth. It was pretty scary at first. She is doing
okay now, but looks like a World War III survivor as they had to cut
some out in places, stitched between her toes, and many quills bled on
          removal.

There are still quills buried in her, but they should work their
way out over time (I pulled four more today). She is on antibiotics and
pain meds and thankfully is doing quite well. Maybe she was showing
off for her new boyfriend, Rocky, I don't know; but he only got a few in
him, which friends were able to remove. Ike, of course, had better
          sense.

I sure hope that the Queen of Quills has learned her lesson...

Oh...that poor thing!!!!!! I didn't realize a porcupine could do such damage!! Granted the porcupine was fighting back but I still feel very sorry for that poor dog.

The really sad thing here is that he is taking pics of the poor thing before he takes him to the vet. I think he needs a few quills in his butt to get him thinking on the right track. IMO

I think these pictures were taken at the vet's office. The vet might have wanted to take some pictures to warn people not to let their dogs run loose because this is the type of thing that can happen. Just a theory.

That just looks awful! Ouch! I'm relieved to know that she survived and I bet she doesn't go anywhere remotely near another porcupine. Ever!

I think you're right p-bird, I just noticed the tubes and stuff in the back ground, it does look like a vets office! Thank goodness it was not just cruel owners LOL

Thankfully there were none to cause blindness. Perhaps the dog closed her eyes? That looks horrid - but think of the arts and crafts projects you could do !!

LOL cmcole, I have some really cool earrings I got up in Cheerokee that are made from porcupine quills.

On the news this weekend they showed another doggie that had this same thing happen to him---it looked just like this pic so i believe this must be real!
