Another female/male seperation in society

No one really wants to think about their children, or kids in general, having sex, but I'm working on a paper and came across age of consent in different states, male first, female following from the following site:

Now my paper is dealing with different accepted practices, world-wide, but this also caught my attention. Does anyone have any ideas on WHY its legal for a male to have sex before a female? I guess biologically speaking, males sexually mature faster, but this is lawmakers who made this. A little disturbing in my opinion.

Mind you... i find that Englands laws pretty messed up too....

The age of consent is 16, but if you're gay, its 18.... hmm...

biologically speaking males actually DO NOT mature faster - females do.

I think it goes back to protecting one's daughter and hoping their son's sow their wild oats. Completely asinine thinking if you ask me. I am teaching all of my kids abstinence as they develop to age.

I on the other hand have taught my kids that sex is one of the most important things on earth to enjoy safely respectfully with themselves and with thier partner...I have raised four kids respectively now they are 23, 25, 26 and 30 ...wow!!! anyway only the 30 yo has had a baby and he was planned, (and is perfect and the light of my life with out bias!!!) and not one STD amongst them.....and by golly they have all had a lot of sex!...I personally think abstinence is overrated!.and unrealistic for most healthy kids.but that is mho based on years of nursing ....oh yeah and back to the subject I think BoWulf is kind of right it was an old fashioned law that allowed boys who could not get pregnant to run around much earlier with less sense than girls..reality again...kids still had and will have sex...trust me I see them every day when they come in for their birthcontrol ..and I am so happy they come in!!!

Thats a real interesting study, and shows how really puritanical we are in the US. I went to a fertility festival here in Japan where they paraded around a 8 foot long phallic symbol and passed out candie in the same form. LOL, nobody thought anything about it except the burly Marines who were with us. They were embarrassed as heck. LOL
