  • A "Grandma" Shower...I need your ideas!

So, the manager of our shop is going to become a Grandma in the next month or so and she's pretty excited! Her daughter is in her early 40's and miscarried twice before so this baby is already loved so much and my heart just melts to know this is going to happen.

She'll be leaving for 3 weeks to go where her daughter lives and hopefully will be there when the baby is born. All of us staff are very happy for her. On August 9 we're going to have a staff meeting and I thought we should have a little surprise "Granda" shower for her at the end of it.
I thought that we could all think about things that a Grandma should have or that she might need in order to be the best Grandma she can be, so I've asked everyone to think of things, and I'm asking you guys too! The idea is to have a gift bag full of little things with little notes on them.

    Ideas so far are:
Gum - Because Grandma's always have gum.
Kleenex - to wipe little noses and dry tears.
Band-aids - Grandma's know how to fix boo-boos and owies.
Little folding travel scissors - to cut drinking straws down shorter

Please let me know what else would be cute, funny, touching or silly...All ideas are welcomed!

I'm also crocheting the baby a really cute afghan with teddy bears on it...omg, it's so cute I can hardly stand it...lol

NO WAY. I just saw that you are 41 in your sigline... NO WAY. I figured you for early to late thirties.

We did this, and got a "How to Knit" package thingy from Walmart, Michaels has them too. Lifesavers , my gram always had lifeasvers (tucked in her bra, but who cared when you were 4? They appeared like magic!) A funky colored sun hat, for trips to the park, 12 rolls of film-12 exposures, for gram or mom to take and give to gram if far away, one for each month of the first year, and a Grannys Brag Book to put them in. OOOH.. and you said she lives farther? Maybe a book like Love you this Much, or Goodnight Moon, and take a tape recorder, and she can record herself reading to the baby and leave it with the book. That one makes me cry. SIGH. And I think it is a good idea for grandmas to get something like a journal to record family stuff, stuff about great grandma and life when she was little, letters to the little, tell tales on the parents, that type of thing. Ok, crying at my desk. MUST STOP.

And a shirt that says "Baby loves Grandma best" and matching onsie that says "Grandma loves baby best".. both easily done wiht puffy paint.

I could do this all day. SHutting up now.

    Blessings

      Yeah gift certificates are best!

When I first opened this thread, I thought you were building a shower for your Grandma lol. I was going to mention sitting ledges and extended water nozzles!

Aww..thanks for the compliment! It's all smoke and mirrors and fuzzy camera filters, really. lol
I didn't get through your post without being in tears! Those are some really great ideas, thank you so much!!
We'll definitely be giving a brag book, and I'm going to write out a cookie recipe that I have that's a hit with kids as well.

Disposable cameras and a Grandma brag book or maybe even a nice little charm neckless to add a picture of baby.

Sounds like fun...what a great idea.
