  • WARNING!!! Graphic (bloody) pics & update..

Hey you all. Been scarce the last few days and with good reason. It seems the drama is just going to continue to roll and roll right now. The fire last week wasn't enough fun, apparently.

Thank you *SO* much for the continued thoughts and support. I know I've said it before, but seriously - THANK YOU.

I posted in STAC, but didn't want to add the pictures in there without being able to post a warning to those who may not want to look at this nastiness.

Saturday night my husband & I went out to the club. We've been regulars there for over 3 years now and I sorta feel like NORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRM when I go in. LOL Anyway, to make a long story short, here's the statement I wrote out for the police :

Saturday, July 23, 2005 my husband, Duane W***** and I went to A********** Nightclub (located at ****************************). Right around bar closing time we left and went to the McDonalds right across the street.

We were riding my husband’s 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle, and we were waiting in the drive-thru line for our order. There was a black Nissan Maxima with 2 men in front of us at the drive-thru window. My husband was revving the engine on his bike – teasing me – and I was talking to a woman sitting on a curb that I knew from A******** Nightclub. We were all giggling.

The man in the drivers seat of the Maxima – a light skinned black man with short hair, wearing a black button down shirt and I think jeans – about 6 foot tall or so and around 25-30 years old, got out of the car and came back yelling at my husband and I. He yelled something like, “You got a fu***** problem?!” I responded to the man telling him something like, “Man, no one was talking to you – grab your food and let’s go!” He told me to shut up and let my husband talk. He got more belligerent and started to threaten my husband telling him he was going to “Beat you down”. My husband got off the motorcycle and the two of them stood nose to nose arguing back and forth. There was a man in a car behind us (I don’t know this man, but see him often at Alleygators). He got out of the car and stepped in-between Duane and the driver of the car. The two men separated and Duane got back on the motorcycle. The driver walked to the driver’s side door, said something to the passenger of his car, and then walked back around to the trunk of his car. He opened up the trunk and started to dig through a light tan colored tool bag. He stopped, pushed the trunk closed and walked back to the driver’s door again. He started shouting at us again – I’m not sure what he said, but he went back to the trunk again, dug in the tan tool bag and pulled out a light blue handled set of channel-locks (like a big wrench). He turned around and swung at my husband. He missed.

My husband got off the motorcycle and I saw the man swing the channel locks at Duane again and hit him. The next thing I saw was the two of them fighting by the McDonalds building, between the building and the car and motorcycle. I saw the passenger of the car get out. The passenger was a white man with short blonde hair (shaved down??). I’m not sure what he was wearing and I’d put him around 25ish years old as well. He came around the back of the car, yelling at Duane and his friend and was headed to jump in the fight. I was off the motorcycle by then – and I stepped in front of this man to stop him.

The passenger screamed at me to move and grabbed me by my shoulders and shoved me. I shoved the man back, and screamed at him to stay out of the fight. I said something like, “Your boy thinks he’s a big man with a set of channel locks, let him be a man and stay out of it!” The man shoved me into the motorcycle, then grabbed the motorcycle and tried to push it over. I shoved him away from the bike and the man swung at me to hit me. I ducked and shoved him away from me again. He came back at me again, swung at me and shoved me back. I stumbled back a bit and in that time he grabbed the motorcycle again in an attempt to knock it over. I shoved the man again, he swung at me, and I ducked, kicked him in the groin and punched him in the face. I screamed at him again and he started backing up. I didn’t hear the driver of the car yell, but saw the passenger look towards the driver and my husband, and they both started back towards their car to get in. I believe it was at this time I called 911 and gave the operator the license plate number, make and model of the car. I do not remember if I gave a description of the men at that time.

They got back in their car and sped away. I was still on the phone with 911 and my husband got back on the bike. We followed them down Bass Lake Road to 494 Northbound, to 694 easts Bound. I lost connection with the 911 operator somewhere along 494. While on 694E, I noticed that my left arm was wet. I looked down and discovered I was absolutely covered in my husband’s blood. I told him to turn off and we managed to get back to my apartment located at ***** **** *** * **** ********, ** *****. When we got to my place, I called 911 again and police and ambulance responded.

    Brook *. W*****

I've never been as afraid for my personal safety, or that of my husband's, in my entire life. It was easily the scariest thing (aside from my youngest child's health issues & my mom's) that's every happened to me. It was straight out of a freakin' movie.

WHAT THE **** IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!!!! WHAT on earth could possibly justify this type of behavior???? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I'm angry. Really really angry. We're not talking about your average testosterone injected fisticuffs type deal here. If this guy had just come at dh with his fists, it would still be really freakin' messed up, but a weapon??????? Yep. I'm angry.

Dh refused to let them do a CT scan at the hospital, but I'm fairly certain his skull is cracked up on top. It's oddly mushy in a couple of spots that it shouldn't be, and it's not just the tissue that's funky. Odds are I'm going to have to find a place on his head that isn't stitched and bruised, thump him over that spot, and drag him back in tomorrow. He's been staying with me since Saturday night & will until I know he's going to be okay.

We went to the police station yesterday to give them our written statements and have them take more evidentary photos of Dh. They have NOT arrested this thug & his friend yet. There has been a detective assigned to the case, and you can all bet who's about to become a ROYAL pain in a certain detective's ***.

So yep. I'm a complete failure this week with smoking and eating, and I won't even begin to deny or justify. There is no denying it and I certainly can't justify it - but for now I'm on auto pilot and praying that things settle down to a dull roar. I'd give anything for the last couple of weeks to be erased and get a do-over, but somehow I just don't see that happening. Gahh.

I did go grocery shopping today though, and we have a good meal out for tonight, so that feels better.

I WILL conquer all this crap, I will..and when I do? Brook The Low-Carb-&-Exercise-Maven WILL BE BACK. Don't give up on me yet.

    Love & Light.
    ~Brook

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope they get the bastards that did this. How scary for you and your husband. Why wouldn't he get a CT?

He's self-employed, Aphex. No insurance and everything comes out of pocket. That and he's a stubborn mule.

Add to that, these bastards aren't legally responsible for the damages caused. His best bet is to try to access a victims fund/charity, and I'm pretty sure there will be polar ice-caps in h.e.double hockey sticks before he'll do that.

He's more than likely going to wind up going in and getting it done anyway...and hopefully if there is internal damage it won't be too bad. If he croaks on me, I'll kill him.

And thank you *so* much. It's just nice to know that someone else out there in the world views the situation as being as horrible as we do -because we certainly didn't get that empathy from the responding officers. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

        Edited -
Rikki- Yes. That's all his blood, except for a small bit on my face from where the passenger got me. When I figured out I was covered in his blood, I told him to head straight for my place. This was all of about 5 minutes after the attack- and it was on our way home that dh got *very* disoriented. He had no idea where he was, what he was doing, where he was going....nothing & I couldn't get him to pull over so I could get us home. (I don't have a motorcycle license, but I'd have got us home!!) Only by the grace of God did we make it home okay. We musta had an angel escort all the way.

I figured it was an insurance issue. We live in the most powerful country in the world, and business owners can't afford to have health insurance for themselves. Isn't something wrong with that picture? My family also has their own business, so I know how stressful that can be.

Cops can be pricks like that sometimes. Maybe there is some unwritten rule that they can't show sympathy to the victims. My co-worker was assulted by a customer on the job, and the officer who took the report made her feel like she was making a big deal out of nothing.

Anyway, you're not a failure, your progress is proof of that. Don't beat yourself up over food and cigs right now. You'll get back on it. Just take care of yourself and your family. I will say, one of the healthiest ways to work off aggression is to exercise. Ever think about taking up kick boxing?

Heh. How do you think I dodged that little fink and popped him? - I actually have a date with an eliptical today.

They did treat us like we were making a big deal about nothing. NOTHING? I looked like Carrie on prom night!

And yeah, the insurance stuff is a nightmare.

Re: WARNING!!! Graphic (bloody) pics & update..

              ((((Brook))))

Talk to a specialist by phone about what a CT scan might show or not; what the methods of treatment are if the CT scan shows anything or not; how long the signs of the concusion might last and at what point you progress with more treatment. Mostly, what signs to look for something being wrong. I don't remember when it's most dangerous for something to be truely wrong or what they may or may not do even if the skull is cracked, but asking many questions is a good thing. Write down all you can think of before calling.

Eric (then 9) had a head injury last March. Concusion and post concusive syndrome with a headache and symptoms that lasted until last month, although we had been warned it could have been up to a year. I really wish I hadn't drug him through so many doctors and would have gotten more info upfront. Going to the hospitals and doctor's offices really wrung him out and always made the next day worse. Of course, GO if you need to... but I was frustrated at how little info we got each time we went and how Eric was doing worse after the visits.

If I were you, I'd be forcing him into a CT scan too! But get lots of info instead of the run-around. We wound up with two CT scans a week apart and several doctor visits with very few giving useful information. Hopefully your hospital & doctors will prove to be much better!

              ~ Linda

ps - concusions can cause personality changes, trouble making decisions, problems concentrating, etc. Being aware of the problems can help you both deal with them, but they can be frustrating for both the people with the problem and those around them. Wishing your DH a speedy recovery and as few problems as possible!!

Oh my gosh Brook. I wish I had some words of wisdom or something helpful but I'm just at a loss for words right now. I will tell you though that I'll be thinking of you and your husband and sending up prayers for you and him. And here's a as well.

for Brook and a for hubby!

You two are so lucky. Doesn't likely seem that way, but in this day, the luck is that the a$$hole pulled out a pair of channel locks and not a gun! The cops were probably non-chalant because they are used to dealing with a dead body that did meet up with a gun and not a pair of channel locks!

I'm so sorry for the black cloud that has been following you and yours lately.

                    More hugs for you!

                      How awful!

I was reading this to my husband and he reminded me that if someone falls on your sidewalk, they can sue you for medical bills...so we were wondering that since this happened on McD's property, if they would pay your medical bills (no security person on duty either).

Just another avenue since some insurance policies have this written in them and you don't have insurance right now.
