Major arrests today in London. Quite amazing police work. I guess the whole city and all communities are working with the police on this.

But I know if you access the BBC site from outside UK you mihght not see what I see.

I am just back from holiday in Cyprus where I was watching it happen on BBC World Service and CNN.

Now whether when I get back iNto my military Headquarters on Monday, I will learn any more I doubt.

I have heard on one news report that the guy who was shot dead was in possession of forced Identity Docs and was an illegal immigrant - that may eaplain why he ran from the police - high price to pay.

My Brother-in-Law is a British Taransport policeman based in York in the north of England, but is presently in London - what he knows I may never find out!

I thought that it was something liike that. Pardon my ignorance, but isn't it warm there in London at this time of year. I see that it's in the upper 60's to mid 70's this week. I read where this man was wearing a great big overcoat, which is what brought suspicion on him in the first place.

Well, you can never be too careful. The police are damned if they do and damed if they don't. He could have had a bomb and blown up several people. Even after they had him down, he could have pressed a detonater somewhere on his body. Dead men don't.

I hate when things like that happens, but I'm also a realist. I don't fault the police on this one.

It was very warm the day he was shot - why he was wearing the anorak remains a mystery. Was he set up?

His student visa had expired two yeas ago and he had a forged permit in his passport.

To set all this in context VERY few British Police are armed. (Around 500, I think.) In his own country where they do have armed police 600 persona a year a shot on the streets by police.

All of this is regretable, but as the Police Commissioner says we have to move on.

Those arrested today were talked out and left the house naked so police could be sure they were hiding no explosives. Commentastors have been at pains to pont out that this police action involved trust. That it happened that way should give confidence to honest Moslem Brits who feel under threat.
