  • Opinions: Sign Language courses

My bosses have offered to us to pay for sign language courses. I'm thinking about taking up their offer because it can be useful. My main concern is this: I'm not the most coordinated person in the world and I'm worried, I might be thrown have to take "Sign Language for the hopelessly clumsy" course.

So, who's taken sign language and how hard is it?

Lol...sorry...my sister is really clumsy and I just got a great visual. "Wait! No! I'm sorry!! I didn't mean to offend you! No...I didn't call you a duck! Lemme try again!" lol.

I've never taken an official sign language course but I know the basics. I say if they're paying for the courses then go for it. It's always great to have an extra skill and I don't think you have to be neccessarily graceful or anything to use sign language. Maybe if you were yelling at someone in sign language you would. lol. People I see signing really fast probably just have been doing it for a long time...I bet once you learn it and keep practicing you'll end up with that kind of speed too.

I say go for it too! It's a fantastic skill/language to have and know and will come in more handy than you probably think it will.

Even the clumsy can be successful with it. LOL I managed!!

      Go for it!

Talk about an exciting oppurtunity. You are learning a new language. From my experience with sign languages, its not that cordinated venture. the best part is, Deaf people are flattered that you even bothered to learn that no matter if you mess up or not they are still helpful and supportive.

I'll inform my bosses that I'll take the sign language course on Monday---just hope I don't inadvertently offend anyone (gee would THAT be embarassing!).

Go for it! I'm clumsy, and I can do it. Don't worry about offending anyone; fluent signers deaf or not understand the learning curve concept and will not be easily offended by someone who is just learning.

                Re: Opinions: Sign Language courses

go for it folk who are used to it will know from the way you do it you are not a natural and will understand you made a mistake they woill even make insider sign jokes about the way you sign.
i know I worked with a group of deaf GS back in high school at trhe scholl for the def and i was the butt of all their jokes espically on the ball field when i naturaly called out verbal warning signals about cutters and pics.

you will have a great time and you will be amazed at how often you can use it.
Luckily they don't finger spell much any more LOL
