BARTOW, Fla. -- The mother of a 12-year-old car thief stormed out of a Polk County courtroom Thursday. She threatened to blow the place up out of anger over the 10-year sentence that was just handed to her daughter.http://www.davesdaily.com/out.php?id...07/detail.html

Re: Mom Threatens To Blow Up Courthouse
Lovely. That's a fantastic way for a parent to show their support for their child. <insert giant eye roll that's so big it hurts here>
Like Aphex said - doesn't sound like the apple fell too far from the tree.
10 years for a 12 year old is really steep - but then it sounds like she got lucky that she didn't harm anyone or anything and didn't get hurt herself. She's obviously not being taught what she needs to be taught to be a healthy, productive individual. I normally wouldn't be so quick to say that, but with her mother reacting the way she did saying the things she said- it seems pretty apparent to me.
How sad.

Re: Mom Threatens To Blow Up Courthouse
I think Florida sucks. The judge pretty much threw away a life. What kind of individual emerges from the corrections system after 10 years let alone a kid. Very very sad.CaGirl1 age 25 5'4 1/2"

Re: Mom Threatens To Blow Up Courthouse
What kind of individual emerges from a mother who threatens to blow up a courthouse? Didn't sound kid has an incompetent parent. What were the odds that he was going to be an upstanding citizen if he was stealing cars at age 12?
Also during sentencing, the judge said what the 12-year-old did was not just a delinquent act, but implied she had endangered the public.

Re: Mom Threatens To Blow Up Courthouse
Funny thing is, people who would be decent parents (like MOG) have chosen not to have children. The ones who have no sense are popping out kids like rabbits. Of course, there are good parents out there too, they just don't get the attention or recognition that the losers get.

Re: Mom Threatens To Blow Up Courthouse
I saw the footage on tv... I think their combined IQ's... moms and daughter is about 50...
I cant' believe the judge didn't do something more than just call her back and reprimand her....

Re: Mom Threatens To Blow Up Courthouse
I don't know about Florida, but I know here in Georgia.. a juvenille offender can be made a 'ward of the state' which from what I've seen just means they stay in touch with the family, require counseling, meetings with probation officers etc... the kid still actually LIVES at home.... just that the state has the right to do home visits, etc... and SHOULD the kid commit another offense, or continue to have problems in the community.. THEN the state can put the kid in foster care etc..... or a youth detention place...Originally posted by MotherOfGizmoThe 10 years was Anyone know exactly what that means?2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
