  • Need insurance advice (fast)

I am changing insurance companies and they are telling me that if I take a survey that they have and answer some questions about my health they will give me 20 dollars off of the insurnace. They will not let me see the survey they just want me to make a dicision site unseen.
They say no one will ever see the info but them. Yeah! Right!

Has anoyne ever ran into this? Is it on the up and up or is it some kind of trap to get medical info to use against you?

I don't know, but is it worth the risk for 20 bucks? Are they going to check your medical records anyway before they issue the policy?

I'd be looking for yet another insurance company. One with good pricing, but that also puts the customer first. Not letting you see the survey first is unreasonable, IMO.

I agree that $20 is very little in this regards. Although I'd be tempted to take their offer to see their survey and then either tell them I've changed my mind or answer some of the questions as "no reply".

Look into this a little more and see EXACTLY what the benefits are. Many new plans are consumer-directed plans, which are high-deductible plans with some type of health savings plan attached with is funded by your or an employer. Many of these plans offer members incentives to take care of themselves -- and a very common incentive is to complete a health survey each year. The idea being that it makes you more aware of the behaviors you have that affect your health. Frequently these plans will also offer incentives to quit smoking, lose weight, etc.

Also, you didn't say whether this plan is through your employer, or from someplace like Fly By Night insurance! If it is through your employer, you will want to compare all the plans your employer is offering and make sure you understand what you are getting.

Typically, with those surveys, the information is aggregated and given to an employer. The employer wouldn't see your individual survey and be able to identify it as yours, but would be given info like - -30 percent of your employees say they want to stop smoking next year.

I would be very leery of a company that is willing to knock down the premium if you answer a survey.

Let us know how it comes out!
