GRAND RAPIDS -- City police and local animal-control organizations were kept busy fielding telephone calls from angry and concerned pet lovers after two morning radio show hosts announced that they would drown a dog on the air.
The announcement, made Thursday during the "Justice and Jim" program on rock station WKLQ-FM, turned out to be a ruse. At 8 a.m. Friday, the disc jockeys broadcast what sounded like the noises of a dog being drowned, then told their audience it all was a stunt intended to raise awareness about accidental water-related deaths among humans.
