  • Baby Tushy help please

    Sara (shes two weeks old) has a rash, ive been putting A&D ointment on her with nearly every diaper change...but its not doing anything...could it be a yeast infection? My older DD had one when she was a baby, but its been years and years and i cant remember what it looked like...I called her doc office but they wouldnt help cause shes not an established patient yet till her first appt on the 23rd ...ive got some lotamin(sp?) left over from when i needed it, would it hurt to put some of that on her? What if its the disposible diapers ive been using, babies CAN have a reaction to those right? I use cloth on her sometimes during the day, but she wets through them so badly and i dont have any water proof covers...suggestions???

      Here is a link, its called Boudreaux's Butt Paste

      http://www.drugstore.com/products/pr...x's_butt_paste

      there is an even better site, here is what it says

      On the market since the 1970's, this ointment was specially formulated by a pharmacist, George Boudreaux, with direction from a respected pediatrician to provide effective diaper rash care. The active ingredients being Peruvian Balsam, Boric Acid, Castor Oil, Mineral Oil, White Wax, and Petrolatum, it goes on and cleans off easily, treats and protects diaper rash and has a pleasant scent. In addition, it has been shown to be effective in many other minor skin disorders such as: heat rashes, hemorrhoids, chaffed skin, jock itch, bed sores, abrasions, shingles, feminine irritation, poison ivy and oak, incontinent rashes, decubitus ulcers, minor burns, chapped lips, fever blisters, rectal itching.

          Butt Paste is dabomb. It's possible for it to be a yeast infection. If the butt paste doesn't start improving the issue, I'd be inclined to give the lotramin a try.

          And yes, should *could* be having an allergic reaction to the brand of diaper you're using. I couldn't use Pampers on Roo, couldn't use Huggies on Aaron, and Sammy was a Huggies only baby. LOL

          BABY TALK
          You should have your baby's diaper rash checked by a doctor if:
          • the rash occurs when your baby is less than six weeks of age;
          • the rash shows signs of becoming infected (e.g., some pimples, small ulcers, large bumps, or nodules have developed);
          • your baby has a fever, is losing weight, or isn't eating well;
          • the rash starts spreading to other areas of your babys body, including the arms, rash, or scalp;
          • the rash hasn't improved within two to three days despite your best efforts to treat it on your own.
          Hope Sara feels better soon!!

          It'd sure be easier if they came with instruction manuals!

            The best thing to use is anhydrous lanolin; if you've been nursing, it's the same thing that you use on your breasts, sold under the name "Lansinoh.' It will clear up in 24hours!

              That's sad! If you just talked to the staff and not a nurse or doctor, I'd let the doc know you had a problem with this. Most doctors really do care about their patients and wouldn't want the mother or newborn to go without routine advice. Good luck with one of these lotions and getting it to clear up quickly!

                If the doc wont advise about baby tushie.. you could call and say,, so Ive been using Depends, and I haev this rash, and it wont go away.. .LOL

                My nephew would get nasty rashes sometimes when I had him... I would powder him with pure cornstarch, and lay him on a cloth diaper to "air out".. not diapered up, just laying there, while he was quiet or sleeping. The starch and air helped a lot.

                    Keep her really dry. Since she's a girl, you can put a diaper in her crib and let her sleep on it (no need to cover her rear end). That will allow the area to be drier.

                    In addition to Butt Paste, there's also a preparation called Triple Paste---this stuff is great too.

                    But keeping her skin dry is the best thing for her at this point.
