  • Things you didn't know, but were afraid/embarrassed to ask??

I guess I can be clueless sometimes, or its just that I need to simply ask someone what it is, or what's up with that

    1) How is it that Carribean water is so clear at the shore, and also its blue?? Especially how the blue gets darker as its going out into the sea?

    2) How come it doesn't mix with the rest of the world's oceans and turn dirty too?

Don't be afraid/embarrassed here, ask your questions too.

Are you sure it's not just a reflection of the sky, since the sand is so white?

I can't think of any pressing question that I wish to add, though.

      Hey Nikki...

It has to do with water depth, and what is underneath the water. The deeper the water, the less light that can bounce back and register as color... same for what is backing it.. the white fine sand reflects more light than dark brown/black sand or rocks.. why some beaches are that light blue, and some are a darker navy, some even get a green cast from algae and other plant life/organisms.

Thanks cmcole, that's a way to look at it. Womanpraised, I still don't understand why the water is actually the color blue itself I just don't get it.
Brook and jdbeckers I know why is that?? I wish someone will let us know.

The water isn't actually blue...if you take some water from the ocean and put it in a glass jar, it's not blue anymore...

Why can I do so well on the treadmill or elliptical, and not in real life when I'm out on the road?

I could throw in a few answers, but I just felt the need to ask a rhetorical question.

ATMs are required by many state and federal agencies to have braille on them to comply with various regulations regarding nondiscriminatory practices. This is also why you see it on drive thru machines, which I find FAR scarier. I own some ATMs and we have blind customers, but they're all walk-up locations...

                        Q

quick edit: The next generation of ATMs will be "talking" ones utilizing headphones. The braille system is ineffective. Only 15% of visually impaired people can read braille and even those that can only have one option at the ATM instead of the usual choices.
