I found a Greek deli nearby my work 2 months ago. They had a great souvaki platter---only $4.95. I just called to place my lunch order today and it's....it's GONE OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!!

Oh well...that mom-and-pop burger joint is still open, so I guess there's still some hope.

Souvlaki is a "greek hamburger" of sorts. It's ground meat (beef, pork or lamb) that's seasoned with herbs, onion, garlic and formed about a stick, then grilled. It's served with a pita bread (I give this to the ducks in the nearby pond). This place was great because they didn't add any fillers to the meat patty and the platter had lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. instead of rice or potatoes.

Anyhow, I placed a burger order at the burger joint. I hope this place stays open. They make great burgers--made to order---with a bunch of different toppings AND it's just a dollar more than the fast food places. :yummy

Oooh, that sucks! Thanfully there are a lot of greek restaurants/takeout places here in Holland...we just ordered some souvlaki & kebab last night...Wish I could send you some!

Well, I've made up my mind. The greek deli went out of business. But I'm gonna make sure that little burger joint doesn't! I'll order from the burger place at least once every two weeks and encourage others to go there too.

I mean, these are made-to-order burgers---not at all like the burgers you get at the fast food places. The regular burger is a "double": two patties. There's also a triple with 3 burger patties. Considering the size of these things and all the toppings you can get on them (no extra charge unless you order double the amount), the burgers are a better deal than the fast food burgers, not to mention they taste better too.

So, support your local small businesses everyone.
