    Re: Gas price thread

I live in Alberta, which is where the oil is produced. Infact Calgary is the Canadian equivalent of Houston (twin city). Fortunately for a change, we are the only province in Canada whose oil price did not go up today. Infact I filled up today at the station at the Indian Reserve for 90.5 Cents/litre, about 20 cents less/litre than anywhere else in Canada. You guys in the U.S. have it alot better than we do in your oil pricing,,,,,,No Fair!!!

      Re: Gas price thread

we're up to 1.29 per litre this a.m. (a .25 change overnight) i converted that to gallons/usd is about 4.12.

On the news they are reporting this can't be because of the hurricane, but in fact just the gas companie taking advantange of the situation.

we have to head up to our cottage this weekend with a pickup truck and a jeep. 110 miles each way...i'm afraid to even guess what it will cost

We are paying $3.00/gal here in southern Illinois. Alabama, Miss., and Louisiana are paying 6 something/gal. This is horrible! I am converting to an amish style living. Horse and buggy for me....

Well, I paid I think 2.69 on Tuesday, this morning here it is $3.25 a gallon! I'm so glad I filled the tank 2 days ago! I am also glad I drive a small car and my comute to work is only 7 miles each way! Now maybe some of those gas guzzling SUV's will get off the road finally!

$3.30 here. We have the 2nd highest state tax on gasoline (30 cents). I wish our governor would suspend that for a while. We're also expecting shortages.

We're expecting shortages here too. They said we have 1 weeks supply. There are lines at all the stations this morning, everyone is panicking. Around the water cooler this morning I heard at least 3 people say they have cancelled their 3 day get aways they had planned for this weekend. My mom lives about 15 miles from me and she said the gas by her house was over 3.50 a gallon yesterday!

Oh, and our state gas tax is 26.6

Damn. $1.34 CDN/litre ($4.27 USD/gallon) this morning right at the station on the corner from our building. Ouuuuuch.

Bugaboo - it doesn't make sense to me either. According to the newspaper, the hurricane shouldn't have had any affect on our prices, just gas companies being jerks. Lovely.

                  Re: Gas price thread

The owner-operators will but the big name companies like Schneider and J.B Hunt will keep going and just pass the cost to the companies they haul for. I feel badly for owner-operators...I don't see how they'll be able to keep going with these prices.
Yep, they will, but if those companies could do it all themselves, the ITOs wouldn't be in business. If they do shut down, it's going to hurt everyone. They paid $3.0399 for diesel here this morning. - And at these prices, a lot of them won't be able to keep going. ITOs are already paying their drivers a prevailing wage (here in Minnesota) of $28.10 an hour per state mandate. If we can't prove that's what we're paying our drivers, our trucks don't work state jobs. So add that to the diesel prices and nope - we won't be able to keep going.

                  Ugh.

I'm guessing we'll see a lot of trucks shutting down soon. If the drivers organize correctly they may be able to see some results. I imagine we'll see some owner/ops make a protest soon. From what I remember the truck stop chain Flying J has it's own refinery. I wonder where it's located. Here in Oregon (where I'm at) we're still doing o.k. My husband called a few minutes ago and told me the gas station we fill up at is at $2.95 for premium...so regular is probaby in the $2.70-$2.80 range and it's not the cheapest gas station in town. We go there because we like the gas quality. We have 3 cars and one is in a shop right now getting an alignment. When we pick it up tomorrow we're going to buy a locking gas cap and fill it up. A guy at my husband's work already had his gas stolen. They actually cut the fuel line, didn't even bother syphoning it. I think we're going to see more of that as prices rise. I shudder to think what will happen in areas where it plum runs out.

Bug....I think you're right about the Flying J. I'm right next door to ya.

Gas is standing still at $2.99 around these parts for the second.

I feel bad for the gas station owners. The owner of the Stinker Station came on the news last night saying he has to pay .25 more a gallon for gas...that's a heck of alot more money then we have to pay.

The Pres. came on a moment ago....
"don't buy gas unless you have to"
Along with opening up the ports to have other countries help deliever gas to the U.S.

                      He also said,
"we see this (hurricane disaster) as a temporary problem"
                      Lord, I hope he's right.

Lol! I was eyeballing the bikes on our back porch. I would bike more but the people around here can barely drive in a straight line...but it's good to know it's there if I need it.

At the truck stop I worked at the diesel profit was the lowest money maker of the entire truck stop. I worked at the fuel desk and I think they would've gotten rid of us if they could. It's hard to believe but with all the overhead diesel makes very little profit compared to say the shop or store. I need to get a hold of a friend of mine that works there and see what the inside scoop is so far.
