            Re: Gas price thread

Last week I topped off my tank and it was $2.51 and today it is $2.84. (I'm in southern central Tennessee -- and my husband pumps gas in north Alabama and the prices are the same.)

We had just bought a Chevy 4x4 truck in January and was so excited about it because we wanted to use it around our yard to haul things and to work on various projects.

BUT...when my DH was driving it two hours back and forth to work everyday we were spending over $100 a week in gas on just that truck. We've switched so now I drive it to work (it's like driving a tank) and he drives the smaller Honda Accord. I think we will save about $170 a month on gas.

            Whew!

We love the truck, but are having a terrible time with those prices.

Someone else stated on this board that the prices of everything keeps going up -- except our salaries.

California members, how do you feel about this?

California Attorney General to Probe Possible Gas Profiteering

              By Dan Whitcomb
LOS ANGELES, Sept 2 (Reuters) - California's attorney general opened an investigation on Friday into possible illegal profiteering by gas stations and oil companies in the state following Hurricane Katrina.

Because America's most-populous state gets none of its crude oil and little refined product from the hurricane-devastated Gulf of Mexico, California Attorney General Bill Locker said, retailers should not be using the disaster to explain a spike in prices.

"Certainly the storm cannot be used to justify gouging Californians while thousands of our fellow Americans suffer," Lockyer said in a statement announcing the investigation

Here in Gainesville, Florida I've seen $2.96/gallon and my mother who lives in South Bend, IN reported $3.15/gallon

.......so much for the news report stories of "will we see a national avg of over $3/gallon by the end of the year?" I think the answer is yes....

I think we can safely say this is the average price everywhere:

                      Re: Gas price thread

My husband put gas in his Audi A90 today...super (mid grade) for $2.88. Regular was $2.78 and premium was $2.98. Prices rising very slowly but we expected this and at least we aren't having gas shortages. My mom freaked out a couple days ago because she heard a rumor gas was going to go up to $4 a gallon. I told her to relax...remain calm...and she's happy to report it has *not* gone up to $4 a gallon. Darn rumor starters.

                        Ready to pass out??

When I started driving a little less than two years ago (yes, I didnt get my license until after I was 18 *gasp* ) It cost me about $35 to fill up my Durango, depending on how empty it was and how full I filled it. Today, it cost me $85 to fill up. I think I stood looking at the pump for a good 5 minutes. I rarely let my tank get past a half tank and almost never get down to a 1/4 tank so I think the price of gas didn't hit me until I had to fill up from empty.

                        I'm very disturbed.
