    Re: Out of Gas

we have folk lining up for gas here and the price jumped 36 cents from the time I filled my mother's car this afternoon till I filled mine this evening.
IN PA in the 70s they made you get gas on odd days for odd Licinse plates and even days for even plates and you were not allowed to just top your tank either you had to get at leasat 5 gallons. Not sure what they did if you didn't get 5 gallons but I remember when my grandfather died and we had to drive to the funeral my dad switched plates so everybody's car was gased up.

        Re: Out of Gas

some stations here will be out until wednesday... but off the beaten path.. there's still plenty to go around.... usually 2.99 to 3.39.......

the panic wednesday was bad... wiped out some stations.... but I don't care they dont' have gas.... (for them I mean).... what's the difference? they weren't getting deliveries until next week anyway... it's just like they sold it all at once.... so it all comes out the same.. right? (except that they lose on the drinks/snacks etc. that people who stop to fill up might buy.... since fewer people will be stopping for gas... .. oh well.. see what I mean?)

          Re: Out of Gas

Sorry about the delay in my reply. I live in Tyler, Tx. That's in East Texas. We have about 3500 evacuees here. Tonight I'm going to Red Cross training. I'm sure we'll have the same gas problems as everyone else soon. In fact, my sister and I are planning on staying in Tyler a few nights a week so that we use less gas (we really live in Lindale--same as MotherNature).

That's so great that you're joining the Red Cross!

Our local radio station is sending 18 wheelers full of supplies out this weekend. We're going shopping after work for things to send.

              Gas Shortage Impacts School Travel
(FAYETTEVILLE) -- The gas crunch is impacting schools--the buses must run to pickup and deliver students. In Cumberland County, transportation officials are looking for ways to cut back on fuel. They're considering some drastic measures in the fourth largest school district in the state. School transportation official Elizabeth McGowan says their buses travel more 25-thousand miles a day and no fuel could mean no school. Cumberland County's fuel suppliers is having trouble meeting the schools needs.

                Re: Out of Gas

My sister said she was able to find gas. She said the problem is people panic and run out to gas stations with gas cans, so of course they're going to run out. She was worried I might not want to come out next month...I told her no way! We'll figure out other ways to get around if we have to! Lol! Our prices here in Oregon are holding steady and there are no shortages. I'm really curious where we get our gas from now. I worked at the fuel desk (diesel) at a truck stop and never thought about it. I know the guys in the tankers go to a place in Portland to fill up the tanks! Lol! I know it's Chevron (or it was at the time I asked) but I have no idea where it comes from. How would I find out I wonder?

That's awesome you joined the Red Cross mere! That's very admirable! When you're in Tyler will you be able to check in with us? Let us know how it goes if you can.

                  Re: Out of Gas

I would think that in a month we won't be having the delivery problems we're having now, it should be fine by the time you come to visit!

Yes, everyone is in a panic, the lines at some of the stations are unbelievable! But we still had gas near my house this morning. Some of the stations said they refuse to even accept deliveries of gas, they said they refuse to pay the exhorbinate delivery fees that are being charged so they will just try to survive for a while selling snacks, beer, cigs whatever until things are under control again.

I just got back in. Gas stations running out all over the place here too! And there is no public transportation in our area.

Kind of like here Barbie! We do have a city bus but the service sucks and the bus stops are few and far between. They are letting everyone ride for free for the next week, but most folks can use them anyway.

                        Re: Out of Gas

I'm not volunteering to boost my ego, but I do really appreciate the support you gals are giving. My church is next to become a shelter, so I wanted to be able to help out there, but I'll go wherever they want me. Tyler isn't far from Lindale (like 20-30 min drive, depending on where you are going). I wish I had stuff to donate or some money to give them, but I don't so I figured my time would be the only thing I can give. A couple of my friends are going tonight too. It'll be good to go with them (my friends), and it would be nice to work with them, but I'm just gonna go wherever they (red cross people) want, whenever they ask.
The training is supposed to be 9 hours, but they are doing a condensed 3 hour video version since they need us so quickly and desparately. It has all really hit home if you know what I mean. Yesterday I was calling the Red Cross about volunteering, I talked to a foreign post doc about it for about 30 minutes (he didn't understand hurricanes or the significance of what has happened to New Orleans), and yesterday when I was at the dollar store a man was loading up boxes of little debbie snack cakes for a shelter. I'm pretty sure they were a donation. And this morning my boss asked me if I was still going to volunteer since I didn't go this morning. I have a great boss who is really supportive of this kind of thing. He and his wife went to a shelter last night and gave them linens and some stuff. He even gave some shirts and ties to two men who have job interviews in Tyler today. Anyhow, it's really weird how this is affecting everyone near and far. I can't say that I'm affected in any worse a way because I still have a home and job (unlike those directly affected) and I don't have a problem with getting gas--at least not yet (unlike many of you guys).

                          Re: Out of Gas

Time can be the best gift of all! We can't afford to give a lot either, but I figure if every person spent 20 bucks on stuff they they would have more than they need! They're going to be needing help and stuff and money for a long time, so later on we'll give a little more.
