  • I felt like Mad Max... the road warrior

you know.. Mel gibson... in the movie.....

yesterday Bree called.. (I didn't yet realize the insanity was happening)...

she had just bought $150 in gas for the lake.... 2 sea doo's. a pontoon, and a ski boat.... last saturday...

we certainly didn't anticipate this mess..... we were just out of gas for the lake toys...

and labor day is coming up.....

so.. she called and said maybe I should go to the lake and get the gas to keep somebody from stealing it... (never happened before, but with this mess... people will probably be out and about looking for it... especially at lake cabins)...

so.. I'm headed home in my little truck with 50+ gallons of gas..... lady abruptly stops in front of me... 2 cans turn over... gas is spilling in my new truck..... I'm frantically getting out and uprighting the cans etc. etc..

    remember the movie? Mad Max..???

I SWEAR I started feeling paranoid... that everybody wanted my gas... and a bit embarrassed that they might think I hoarded all that gas YESTERDAY after hearing of the impending shortage......

well... we probably won't be blowing all that gas at the lake this weekend now... we'll probably save it ....to get to work on...

but if this keeps up... I think school will have to be cancelled... they can't afford gas for buses at that price.... for long... even if they CAN get it!

it doesn't seem right somehow though to 'waste' all that gas just playing.... it's sad but it's changing all our lives... my 23 year old niece actually thought about it....

we've decided we'll probably still drive to the lake... but maybe fishing or just playing in the water instead of endless gas guzzling......

You know i just found out that in NC you can apply for a refund of the tax paid on that gas if its being used for "non highway" purposes such as boats, lawn mowers, tractors etc. I don't know what your state tax is, ours is 26.6 cents on the gallon so if you're spending that kind of money to fill your boat you might look into whether or not your state does that, over a years time that could really add up!

Here's a site where you can get the forms for North Carolina and Virgina

I don't know.. but I doubt it does... my Mom is a tax accountant.... she does our personal and business... and while we DID find a way to count a 4-wheeler as a business expense (my hubby is a contractor).... I'm guessing if it was possible, she'd have told us by now....

I doubt that you have anything to worry about unless Lord Humongous shows up and starts telling you to, " Walk Away ! Just walk away!".

When you guys think about how high your gas prices are.....think of me! I pay over $6.11 a gallon here in Norway!

Does Norway have a good public transportation system? Ours is pretty non existant. We do have city buses, but if I even wanted to take one I would have a hard time finding a bus stop near the places I need to go. I think I would have about a mile walk from my office to the nearest bus stop. I wish we had train or subway systems like they have in Japan. I'd use them in a heart beat! I hate driving, but here you really have no choice.
