Re: THIS is why they don't take "in kind" donations most places
When I went on my first disaster assignment it was to Hurricane Hugo and so many folks wanted to help and so they sent used clothing. Some of it was beautiful clothes with lots of wear, but most of it had buttons missing, stains, shrunk, holes. The donations, truck full of stuff went to the landfill because even the hurricane victims wouldn't want to wear it and no one wanted to clean it,
The Red Cross doesn't take used clothing, because they need to make sure the clothing is clean and sterile, so they have to have it cleaned, and then they need to sort it and its just not cost effective as it costs lots of money to have it professionally cleaned, sorted and sized. So, they decided long ago to give the victims only new clothing.
I admire what your doing as its great as we can all do something to help.

Kimberly...... Its going to take many many people like yourself to help people thru this. Some of us do it thru cash donation and others like yourself give blood, sweat and tears to help out. You are a winner in my book!
