but you're acting as if this is the only place on the net where you can get this info.
She's not acting as though this is the only place on the net where you can get poker info - she is, however, acting as though it's one of the very few, honest places on the internet to get Atkins information. You know, the anti-addictive behavior types of information. Comparing poker lessons to car repair is silly. Honestly. It's a stretch at best and insulting at worst.
Comparing a Poker Lessons forum to the Womens forum/ChitChat forum is just as ridiculous. The womens forum here has absolutely been directed at times towards low-carb issues and how it relates to various things women deal with. Do we discuss other things in that forum as well? Absolutely - just as with the ChitChat forum. They are healthy, benign areas that are community building. Show me how the poker lessons are community and friendship building and I'll accept the comparison as valid. <shrug> Just my opinion.
Where do we draw the line? At the health and benefit of the members of the board. We draw the line where we want our focus to be. Want poker lessons? Go to a poker forum. Want car maintenance lessons? Go to a car maintenance forum. Want Atkins advice and support? ADBB is right here
You can still get very honest accurate atkins info on this site even if there happens to be a poker post in "lessons" I don't think that changes the fact that this site is great for those that are on or have just started atkins.

I wasn't saying that they are one in the same, my point was everyone has different opinions on what is right and wrong (what belongs and what doesn't) It would be very difficult to please everyone, and who is to say which is right? BUT perhaps to be fair there should be a vote, I don't know....I'm just here for the great people that I have met and the support I get frome everyone, a poker lesson forum isn't going to change that for me.

I dunno. Do people lose their homes and families when they get a puter virus? Do they require 12 step programs to work through them? Do said virus issues/desktop pictures cause people to become obsessed to the point of disabling them? -And really, the Geek Central forum DOES apply to the low-carb community because last I checked lots of people posted in there to learn how to post pictures, links, and tickers that were directly related to weight loss.
Seriously. Apples to apples comparisons.
Now, I'm not saying that gambling is an issue for everyone. Truth is, I *love* playing poker, but I do understand why putting something that can be construed as addictive and destructive might be rebuffed here in low-carb land - and I think it's a fair concern. We are a community of people that obviously have addictive issues. <shrug>
gal osh- I agree. I think a vote would probably make the masses much happier. LOL

I personally removed my quote once I saw it had been addressed elsewhere, but since it had been addressed, I will comment upon it. I specifically spoke of the Geek Central - non-ADBB technical forum we have here. This is not the technical forum for how to post pictures or tickers, which is a separate forum unto itself. Does a separate geek forum deserve to stay? Because unless MP3 players, TIVO, virii, and wireless routers directly impact weightloss by putting the pounds on, we are talking apple to apple here. Seriously....
As to your questions about addictive behavior and computing. Yes, it has split homes -- I have friends who have bankrupted their family by buying routers and computer parts and threatened marriages by spending too much time on the computer. Obviously gambling is a sensitive subject to some, but so to has alcohol, which is one of the rungs for goodness sake. I have alcoholism in my family, should I start playing that card everytime the subject ventures into that territory?
Who's sensabilities apply? Or do we do what polite company does when the topic ventures into personally uncomfortable territory, ignore it and venture elsewhere.

I couldn't agree more. And actually, I would NEVER have even noticed the poker lessons if not for these posts. There are alot of forums on this board that don't interest me, therefore, I don't visit them.

I didn't make a distinction between the two forums. My bad and fair enough.

Again, fair enough. But as for alcoholism? When we have a forum that's dedicated to mixing drinks and drinking until blasted, then the comparison applies and we'll have something to talk about, IMO. LOL

In this case? I think the majorities sensibilities should apply - thus the comment about a vote making the masses happy.
There are some serious issues with the lessons forums. First all posts have to be preapproved before they can appear so we have censorship going on. Seems those posts not approved are suddenly floating in chitchat as their own topic with no expalnation like so and so moved this post from lessons forum to chitchat because____________ as is done on other forums when a post is cut from the topic by a mod and given it's own topic.
Then we have those links in the lesson themselves. Does this mean we are going to have free advertizing for all lessons to any site the teacher selects?? Looks like anyone wanting to make some money for their personel business could set up a lesson topic routing ADBB members and lurkers to their own for profit website.
And the most important issue is we just had to change software and servers cause we had a very serious bandwidth issue and server speed issues. Now we are up and running well but we just added to ADBBs ever growing size with lessons in anything any one wants to post about that are not Atkins related.
I don't know it seems the owner has lost site of the function of ADBB, the best Atkins WOL site on the web.
LOL, I go on a little vacation and come back to fine "lessons" which seems bazarre to say the least (on a diet support forum), I see two complaints from Supporting Members saying that their posts are being moved willy-nilly and without comment, and then I start reading this and haven't a clue what anyone is talking about cause folks posts are being moved and deleted and edited.
I wonder if maybe the stress of trying to keep two boards alive is taking to much admin time and nothing is going well. (Well, I really don't know about LCBB)
In Toms defence Barbde, he was the one that got STAC off the ground, the other folks had poo-pooed the idea when I brought it up and it was also Tom who had 50+ returned to the board. (He really wants what is best for the board, and must have just had a little brain fart when it came to "Lessons'.

Do we really think my lesson on how to play poker is going to throw someone into some stuper where they are going to lose their house. I really doubt it.
I would "bet" that 70% of the people on this site have played poker at least once in their life ( at home with family, with some friends, at a casino ). And I would be willing to go out on a limb that none of the 20k + people we have on this list have lost a house.
I also think that a poker lesson will not sway a person who otherwise would not have lost their house into losing a house. It simply is a fun strategic game.
If someone is worried. Please write up a post about how bad poker playing can be and link to GA and post it in the poker forum.
Another thing that would make the poker thing less obvious is that if someone else put other lessons there.
