    Re: Why dont' we learn

No noone is allowed to add advertising to the lessons unless preapproved by the board. Any $$$ made usually go back into the board. ( I say usually because we have never gotten to the point where donations + adverts ever got close to the cost of paying for the server ... not complaining I pay it but just for those who may think I am really making out on the advertising on this board it is actually the opposite every month I pay for the server and stuff out of my pocket ... yes the donations do help greatly with that. )

Seems those posts not approved are suddenly floating in chitchat as their own topic with no expalnation like so and so moved this post from lessons forum to chitchat because____________ as is done on other forums when a post is cut from the topic by a mod and given it's own topic.

Then we have those links in the lesson themselves. Does this mean we are going to have free advertizing for all lessons to any site the teacher selects?? Looks like anyone wanting to make some money for their personel business could set up a lesson topic routing ADBB members and lurkers to their own for profit website.

And the most important issue is we just had to change software and servers cause we had a very serious bandwidth issue and server speed issues. Now we are up and running well but we just added to ADBBs ever growing size with lessons in anything any one wants to post about that are not Atkins related.
I don't know it seems the owner has lost site of the function of ADBB, the best Atkins WOL site on the web.

      OK, enough said.
You need to talk to ESPN on this one.
One thing I can say is that it is not really gambling any more than someone placing a side bet on a golf game.

#1) It can be played for fun with no money involved and that is what I am recommending.
#2) Skill is the main factor in poker. It is not like slots, blackjack, roulette or other table games or even flipping a coin. A skillfull player will always win $$$ ( in the long run ) from a less skilled player.

I dont really want to drag this on but I would really like to see the number of poker players who loose their house over poker.

Even at the casino it is hard to lose more than a couple of hundred $$$.
Simply because the stakes are much lower than other games.

Most poker is played in the house or amongst friends and these stakes are usually signifigantly less.

Yes money is gambled on chess but again it is really not part of the beauty of the game. The game is stategic and actually is a good lesson in mathmatics using complex game theory suck as bayes theorem which I will go into as one of the lessons.

It teaches people to think and has taught me about life ( believe it or not ) although I guess many people would not see it the same way that I do.

How about other things that are equally bad ... TV watching ... I think would be way worse for this forum as I would be willing to bet there is a strong link between those who watch too much TV to obesity ... Literally I could name many things that could fall into this classification. But does that mean we shouldnt mention TV shows ... The truth of the matter is that the real world contains temptations and part of losing weight is control and being in control of ones life. If someone mentioning the word poker is going to send a person on a gambling spree to lose millions then that person really needs help with addiction.
