Hey everybody, I'm super tired today and my week will probably just go downhill from here. BUT, my week is going to be a piece of cake compared to some of the volunteers. Most of the shelters are managed by people who are not paid by the Red Cross, and I know for a fact that many of them feel completely unprepared and inept at their jobs. They are dealing with all kinds of stresses and doing it on NO SLEEP! I know that each and every volunteer could use your thoughts and prayers for the next 4-6 weeks. Yes, that's right we know our clients will be here till at least mid-October. As the days pass on don't forget that help will still be needed. Many people are finding relatives to live with for the next couple of months, but there are just as many people whose entire families lived in New Orleans and the other devastated areas. Your generosity has been greatly appreciated despite anything the media has said or suggested. I'm sitting here trying not to cry as I think about the gratitude of the people I have helped. And I haven't exactly been doing anything too hard. Simple things that we take for granted mean so much to someone who has gone through this recent disaster. I'm not going to lie and say that everyone is happy, in fact, we have a few mad people at our shelter, I just have to remind myself that anger is a normal part of grief and that what they need is for me to be there to listen. Ok, so I'm starting to ramble again, so the point is really not to forget the volunteers (remember that means no money--it's not a job).
