  • How did you meet your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend?

I love romantic stories and would love to hear how you and your partner met.

I met my husband online. This is the BEST decision I ever made in my life. He is the nicest person I've ever met.

Matt and I started talking while my Dad was sick and at the time dying. I would talk to him about taking care of him and different symptoms that would appear. I didn't realize how serious it all was until basically the week it happened (my father's death). Matt said that from what I was telling him that he didn't think it would be long, but didn't want to mention it to me. He volunteered to come help me in any way he could. Of course, that was too scary for me at the time and wouldn't think of it.

Matt has been my lifeline and I don't think I could have made it through those last terrible times that I had in my life without him.

When my Mom had died in 1996 my divorce was just going through. I felt so terribly alone during this time of sorrow. I prayed and asked the Lord for a good man. One that would just fall head over heels in love with me...one that I could just be myself with and have fun. With all the trauma from the death, the divorce and pressures at work, I just seemed to gain weight gradually and also prayed for someone to just love me for me. I didn't have the emotional capability at the time (I feel) to have worked on anything other than getting through each day -- making it home and waking up again to go to work. Life was on automatic pilot. My life felt so traumatic. I finally felt those words I'd always seen "Life is fragile; handle with care". Life was fragile. Life would never be the same.

Four years down the road I met Matt online discussing a church we both had attended while in Pensacola, Florida. Our chats were funny and I'd laugh outloud at some of the things he said. We cut up and just had the best of times. He was my bright spot in a world of a sick father. There were a lot of things I had to attend to and having Matt as a friend helped me make it though each day. There were many nights spent at the hospital or runs to the ER that left me physically and emotionally drained.

My father passed away in April 2000 and Matt and I finally met in July. He was a ray of sunshine in my cloudy life. There was hope for the future. I took him to the French Quarter, then to Cajun Country in Lafayette and after a week he had to leave. I felt like I had known him my whole life and cried when he left.

Matt returned by the end of August and we were married on September 29.

Ah! The joy of living. First he became my best friend and then he became my husband. There is never a dull moment with him around.

He's the best thing that's ever happened to me. He is my blessing from above.

I met my husband over the internet. We hit it off immediately after chatting with each other so we met and I knew instantly he was the one for me. We were married in 5 months....Not real romantic, but I love him dearly.

Your stories are so sweet! So how do I say that when I met my husband I thought he was an utter redneck git?!

I won't ruin your romantic meetings with my story, but it SO wasn't love at first sight, and we've been married for 15 very happy years! *lol*

I love reading how people met.

I met my husband nearly 17 years ago when we were both working at McDonalds. I had been working as a counter girl for a couple of weeks... he was working in the grill area. I walked over to pick up an order from him and the first words he spoke to me were so terribly romantic.... hmmmm. how did that go again? Oh yeah.. he says "You look better with your hair down." I was like, what the ****.. I don't even know this guy. How rude!!!

But anyway, after weeks of his relentless and oh-so-charming compliments (Haha), I agreed to go out with him. Actually he invited me to see his rock band play. So I'm thinking Oh great.. they're gonna suck and I'm gonna have to pretend like they are good. What a wonderful first date. Haha But they were awesome.. he was totally HOT up there on that stage and we've been together ever since.

On a blind date 24 years ago set up by my baby sister. We had a long distance romance for 6 months before I asked and she accepted. Two wonderful daughters and 23 years later we're still together.

Pinochle....yup, good ol' card game. Nope, didn't win her in a hand, just happened to be looking up and saw a card game going on in the dorm lounge across the quadrangle from my suite. There was a cute girl and 3 guys I knew slightly. Being the shy guy I am I rambled over and fortunately they were playing pinochle and she didn't have a clue what she was doing. My parents and grandparents used to play constantly and my sisters and I all could play by the time we were 6 or 7. It was the game of choice when snowbound, which happens frequently when you live in Watertown, Oswego and Amsterdam.

I sat with her and helped her bid and meld and now it's 30 years later and she doesn't need any help....at cards at least.

Re: How did you meet your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend?

High school in 1989. I was a freshman and he was a senior. He used to catch me stealing looks at him and we became friends. I used to give him back rubs in class! Lol! He graduated and joined the Marine Corps. I'd see him every now and then when he came home on leave because his younger brother and I were in the same year. I even wrote him (my future husband!) an anguished letter on how going out with his best friend was going and asking for advice! Lol! Anyway, my senior year I was already living on my own. His brother tells me that he is home on leave so I give his brother my phone number and he actually remembered to give it to him. (Years later I realize what a miracle this is) We "hooked" up and during the week he was here and on the one night we don't go out together my brother in Az calls asking me to move in with him to help him and his wife with their kids. Creepy! That puts me 4 hours from where he's stationed in 29 Palms. So thinking it's a sign I move down there and we got married in 1994 and have been married over 11 years! Our first year of marriage he was in Okinowa, Japan so we didn't even live together until about a year and a half after getting married! He is my heart though. We have a pretty wonderful marriage.

                    In Hong Kong in 1998

We were both foreign exchange students in college (from different colleges) and met one of our first days in HK

We spent almost every single meal together for those 4.5 months. Loved it!

Re: How did you meet your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend?

Dating service. I picked him (and 5 others) and he's the one who said yes. Our first date was to a dance club (he doesn't dance) and my feet hurt so bad (forgot my shoes and borrowed a friend's) and he massaged my feet. We went with my best friend and my roommate and he spent the evening talking to me and acting all brotherly to them. I was thrilled. He proposed 9 months later.

We've been together since 1991 (our first phone conversation was while we were both watching Into the Woods on PBS), married in 1993 (he said the honeymoon had to cost more than the wedding, so we went to Australia--and surprisingly enough Into the Woods was playing at the Sydney Opera House--yes we bought tickets and went to see it), daughters born in 1995 and 1999.

                        He's my best friend.

Re: How did you meet your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend?

I met my husband on-line 4 years ago on a site called Lava Life. He contacted me, and I rejected him the first time. Then he contacted me a second time, and I agreed to talk with him on the phone after about 3 e-mails. We spoke for about 10 minutes and I said boldly lets meet, cause I don't want us to waste eachothers time. So he invited me out for dinner at a really nice restaurant. We bumped into eachother in the parking lot, and after looking into eachother's eyes for a second, we just hugged hello! I think this caught us both off guard. The magnetic energy we had when we met was unbelievable. We went into the restaurant, and he sat on the same side as me, again this never happened to me before. He arm brushed against me, every opportunity he had. I barely ate my meal, as I felt butterflies throughout the whole evening. We came back to my car, and sat in the parking lot talking continuously till 4 am. We didn't want the evening to end.

The rest is history, we immediately began to see eachother everyday, and within a month I met his kids and parents, and he met my daughter, and we all bonded, really well. Even my cat Teddy took to my husband immediately. So with the 2 most important people/pet in my life approving, I knew I hit the jackpot.

The restaurant is an important part of our lives. He got down on one knee and proposed to me there, on a busy evening, with everyone applauding! He asked my daughter for her approval at the same time. We celebrate our Anniversaries and Birthdays there, as it brings a special feeling to us. We've been together 4 years now, and he is every bit as wonderful today, as he was when we first met.
