    Re: MP3 players....Recommendations?

Kinda funny...at work I'm transferring to our corporate offices next week, so my co-workers took me out for a farewell lunch today. they got me an Ipod Shuffle as a going away gift. I was very happy! Not sure that this is what I want, but they also gave me a gift receipt so that I can put it towards whatever I decide on.

Still torn between the Creative Micro Zen and the Ipod Mini or Nano. I really like the idea of having FM radio built in to the Micro Zen. I guess I need to go to the store and look at it more closely. Anyone heard anything BAD about the Micro Zen??

      Re: MP3 players....Recommendations?

I did a little more research today. I'm torn also.

I like the FM tuner on the Micro Zen and that I can do Napster to Go AND it comes in purple!!

I also like the iPod Nano, the full color screen is nice. But no FM and no Napster for me, which I'm finding I really like.

They are both tempting. I think I'll also have to go to the store and check them out in person.

Keep me posted on what you find out. It will probably be Saturday before I get to the store.

I keep going back to the FM radio and how nice that would be. But there is a side of me that wants to get the Ipod Nano just to say that I have it. How shallow am I!!!

Ah, well....good luck in your search!

          Re: MP3 players....Recommendations?

I have also heard you can get some sort of an adapter or something that you can hook to your iPod and then you are able to listen to your iPod in the car through your stereo. Does this make sense? Another question I was asked was if I could transfer the songs from an iPod into iTunes and then burn them onto a CD. Does anyone know if this is possible? Keep us posted - I may also be going this weekend to look at all the possiblilies. Let's just hope I am able to talk to a salesman that knows what they are talking about!

I'm not sure if I can answer this. As far as burning cds from Itunes, I don't think you can, BUT the main purpose of getting an MP3 player is so you don't have to use CDs and can group your music together better.

Most of your music will probably be downloaded online or come from CDs, so if you wanted to burn CDs, you probably could just download the songs onto your computer and then burn them.

But, like I mentioned before, the MP3 player's main purpose is to allow you to listen to a great amount of songs without having to switch CDs.

And there are adaptors that you can get in order to listen to the player without headphones or through your car's stereo.

              Re: MP3 players....Recommendations?

Thank you. My son was just wondering because he likes to listen to the music while he is on the computer. So he was wondering if you could at least copy them from the MP3 to the computer and then he could listen to the songs while working on the computer without having to use the MP3. He has a friend that has many songs on his computer which he would copy to his MP3 then bring home and would want to copy onto our computer. Doesn't matter to me - I just want something that I can have some songs on and use while I am running. I am assuming they are anti - skip also. I know there are cd players that advertise anti-skip but are not. I have owned several cd players and they do NOT work while running - they skip all over the place so needless to say I have to use my walkman and listen to tapes. It gets pretty darn boring listening to the same tape (I don't buy tapes anymore obviously! it's now cds - have to move with the times..) This thread has been very helpful.

This site was very helpful to review the iPod Nano and all the specs of it:

I am now torn between the Dell and the Nano - the more I read the more confused I get!!!

                Re: MP3 players....Recommendations?

As far as your son is concerned, I can tell you that both my husband and myself have Ipods. I have added something to his Itunes, downloaded it to his Ipod and then hooked up my Ipod and downloaded it to my Ipod. I just had the Itunes set to manually download the songs instead of automatically downloading the songs.

Plus, if you choose an Ipod, the Itunes has a library in which the songs are stored. Your son would be able to listen to these songs from Itunes from the computer without the Ipod attached. So, you could have the Ipod and he could listen to the songs on the computer.

Since I have so much on my Ipod, I didn't want it to use up space on my computer. Setting the computer to manually download the songs allows me to delete the songs off of my computer. If I needed to put them back on, all I would have to do is hook the Ipod to the computer and copy the songs to my library. (Just in case space on your computer is an issue.) It's not really for me, but since my Ipod holds 30GB, I don't want to have 30GB used on my computer if I don't need to.

                  Re: MP3 players....Recommendations?

Yep. You can burn CD's from Itunes. You can convert them too and drop them down on a cd in mp3 (or is it mp4something?) format to fit like a billion on a single disk.

I have an adapter in my truck - It's hardwired in under the drink counsel thingy and I had them punch a small hole through into the center counsel so I can keep my Ipod in there when I'm in the truck and it's not visible. It connects directly to my Pioneer in-dash receiver and it ROCKS.

Well - I ended up getting a Dell Pocket DJ and my son got an ipod mini (got a good deal since they aren't making them anymore). We are both pleased with the results. A friend of mine has a Dell also and her husband - while in Afghanistan serving in the military- put over 4000 songs on her Dell so low and behold I borrowed her player and copied them to my player. Wow! I need to get the FM tuner for my car so I can listen to it while in the car. Thanks everyone for all your input - it is very helpful when buying these technical things now if I can only figure out my digital camera I'll be all set. I have a hard time taking pictures inside because when the flash is on the eyes will glow. I have pushed the button to reduce redeye but it doesn't seem to work. Hmmm - I'll have to keep experimenting. Thanks again! If only these things were as easy as this WOE I would be all set!

I got my son the scandisk 256mg for his Birthday. He loved it until it stopped working. I purchase the 2 year extended warrenty, Thank goodness, and got my money back. We went right in and got him anothere one. This one is the 512mg and so far so good. I think he is being a little more cautious with this one.

I think they are really awesome.

I use the Ipod mini and love it. The jog dial is about the easiest control surface I've seen, and the 4GB of room I have on this one is more than enough for anything I want to put on it. Battery life is excellent also. And there are so many things you can buy to go with it. BOSE makes a speaker base specifically for the Ipods, and many other speaker manufacturers do as well. I take mine to work these days and pulg the computer speakers up to it for my music.

Hope that helps. If you have the money, my opinion is that the Ipod is the way to go.

Red eye is easily taken off once you download the pics to your computer. Use the imaging software that came with the camera. It really does work!

The imaging software really does work, but the picture looks best if there's no red eye since sometimes even with the software it still leaves a bit of a red tinge.

The red eye reducer pretty much just sets off the flash a half a second before the regular flash goes off in order to constrict the pupils so the light won't reflect on them as much. Depending on what type of camera you have, if you have one in which you can move the flash around, you could also try to set the flash further away from the lens or let the flash bounce off of the ceiling instead of off the subject. One other thing that helps with the red eye. Make sure there's a lot of light where you're taking the pictures. It helps constrict the pupils which reduces the liklihood of red eye.
