  • iPod / iTunes Question...

Can someone explain how iTunes works. If you are a subscriber (that's what Napster has), is there a monthly fee? or just fees to download/buy the music? Can you listen to all the music you want at your computer, or do you have to buy it to listen to it?

    Thanks!

    Re: iPod / iTunes Question...

I have Napster-To-Go and I basically can download all the music I want to only my NTG-compatible player (which IPod isn't )

I have a Dell pocket DJ

I have over 450 songs on it right now which would have cost me over $400...I just pay like $10/month for it...

I have an Ipod, but I haven't bought any songs/audiobooks yet from Itunes. From what I have experienced, Itunes is software that you put on your computer. It allows you to download songs from your computer or cds. You can also purchase songs from Itunes for something like $.99/song (I think.) I think you just purchase the song(s) you want separately, but again, don't quote me.

When I surfed around there, I couldn't find a definitive answer.

            Try this...

I don't believe there is a monthly charge.

              Thanks, Perry.

From what I am comprehending - there is no such thing as "streaming" from iTunes. You MUST buy the music from them in order to hear it and like you said, there is no "monthly subscription charge."

              Thanks!!

                Re: iPod / iTunes Question...

If you look at iTunes further you will see that it has built-in streaming channels for hundreds of radio stations - all free.

I use ITunes to buy songs....at $1 a pop I think it's a pretty good deal. All those 80's songs that I loved, but wouldn't want to buy the cd for....I've got'em now!!!

                      Re: iPod / iTunes Question...

i just bought a nifty ipod in may and love it. however, itunes and i have a love/hate relationship. mostly hate. you buy songs or cds on there separately. it takes forever to download from itunes. i've recently found the msn music site and you can purchase songs from there and the download time is next to nothing. just ziiiiip. done. AND! they just withdraw funds from your credit card monthly instead of everytime you get music. like over the course of the month, i recently purchased 7 songs. it goes on an invoice and gets automatically withdrawn out of my account during that invoice period. with itunes, it's automatic...

and with itunes and ripping cds to your computer, it takes forever to convert them to mp3s. when you purchase songs from itunes (or msn for that matter), they're in mp4 protected format. i've found that if i want to burn a cd of songs i've bought and songs i already have on my hard drive, i have to burn the purchased songs separately since, for some reason, it won't let me burn them both together on one disc. so, i burn the protected songs, then turn right back around and rip that cd onto my hard drive into regular mp3 format. if you're just putting the music into your ipod or mp3 player, it doesn't matter.

                      did that make sense? lol.

                        Re: iPod / iTunes Question...

Sounds like I'm going for the iPod "rip off" made by Creative, Zen Micro.

I like the Napster to Go option of downloading as much as I like and only paying a subscription price. Granted when I end the subscription, the songs aren't mine. But I can buy them too if I like them that much and when I end the subscription, I own those.

PLUS: With Zen Micro, it has an FM tuner. I know iPod has podcasts of shows from radio and such that you can download, but my gym broadcasts the TV stations over FM and I'd like that option if I choose to "hear" TV instead of reading the captions while I exercise.

Thanks everyone for all your input!!! You really have helped me make a really difficult choice

                        Hugs ,
