  • Biggest Loser Discrepancy????

    Okay. SO..

Tonight, when they did the weigh in, they made one of the ladies sit out. Why??? It is percentage based. Shouldnt matter,

    For example:
    *1* 250(loses 3)+250(loses 2)+260 (loses 4)+275 (loses 1)+200 (loses 5) = 1235 Lose 15 lbs. percent=1.2

    *1* 250+250+260+275+200+200 (loses 4)= 1435 lose 19 lbs... percent=1.3

I dont understand why, unless the results were within points of points.

    Thoughts?

    VERY true! DUH!

Also, the whole "advantage" with weighing in a day late.... isn't that just going to make them have LESS time this time around???

    That show annoys me sometimes!

Yeah but if the extra person had a very big weight loss it would skew the results.

        Re: Biggest Loser Discrepancy????

        I have to say it.

I am SO not impressed with the show right now. Last night's episode nailed it home for me.

The trainers are horrible trainers (Good trainers NEVER let their people overexert themselves and become injured).

The producers CLAIM that putting food in front of people with a stressful situation is going to make them eat. Um. No. Not when there are 12 people sitting next to you, and one big guy chanting "eat it...eat it..." And it does nothing to account for boredom, tiredness, etc.

And they gave these people false expectations of losing a lot of weight based on the first week. Come ON. We all know the first week's weight was as a result of waterweight.

I really am so utterly disappointed in this program. There's nothing a person can take away from it with any real aplomb, save for the mockery that this show makes of trainers and the extremely obese.

Maybe someone else has a more positive take on it, but they're already showing next week's episode and it appears two people are being medi-vaced to a hospital?

I hope the show sees a lawsuit the likes of which it has never seen before. They are horribly irresponsible.

I agree, last night's show was a bit much.

But last season they continued losing a lot of weight each week, not only the first week....of course not as much as the first week but still a lot.

I agree with you guys. They try and create drama rather than to create healthy habits and ones that people in society could emulate.

And the trainers should be fired. Bring in Richard Simmons!

I watched for the first time last night, and I was really disappointed and I expected alot more as so many people on this board raved about the progaram. I find the program demeaning and insulting to those participating on it. The trainers should be stripped of their certification, for lack of professionalism and no people skills. Pushing oneselves until you get hurt does not send the right message. They are learning about their bodies when it is too late, and injury sets in. Is there a message the show is trying to set, or are they just ignorant and going for ratings????

                Re: Biggest Loser Discrepancy????

I loved the show last year. A lot of (fat) people said it was demeaning towards fat people. I watched out of curiosity to see how low they would sink. To my surprise I found it very empowering.

Give it a couple more weeks before you write it off. It's true that none of what they are doing makes any sense to those of us on this WOL (or anyone with a brain, that's true) but I watch it for the people. It's true what you say about the trainers - are they for real? Of course they are doing it for ratings! I looked on the website last year and read some of their menus - my gosh!! They didn't always list specific amounts but it was like b: 1 turkey slice, 1 slice tomato, l: salad, 6 walnuts, etc. Must have been big honkin salads and turkey slices or I don't see how they would have the energy to fuel their workouts.

The letters from home section isn't necessarily to torment them, but I think to make them make the right choices. That was a tough choice - your future, or right now? They all knew that they had to be in it for the long haul and I think that was the point of the exercise - not to make the fat people cry. No, I am not affiliated with this show, nor do I play one on t.v. (huh?), but last year I was really inspired and I like to see people perservere. It gives me hope that I too can get through tough stuff and I don't have tough trainers or letters from home to contend with, so it should be a piece of cheese right?

One thing I do have to complain about though, is the low carb bashing that was done on the first show. Jillian says "low carb is crap. This is what you should be cutting out of your diet" and lists white potatoes, white bread, twinkies, ummmmmm, this is different from Atkins maintenance how?????

And another thing.....last year everyone lost hugely in the first week and then hardly anything in the second week. And the trainers seemed to be at a loss as to why this was. I was talking to the t.v.: "you lost a lot of water weight, your calories are too low, muscle weighs more than fat". But did they hear my cries?? Apparently not.

                  Re: Biggest Loser Discrepancy????

last night, why did they base their weight loss on numbers instead of percentages like they did the first show of the season? of course heavy men are going to lose more poundage than women. i thought that was the whole reason for the percentage thing in the first show...and then last night, they counted up the pounds they had lost...without figuring the percentages. what's up with that?

tattoed-- they figured percentages. The guys had like 2.6% and the girls had in the 1-2% range.

LadyinRed-- I appreciate reading your view of things! The first week I was an accolyte for the show. Last night was an utter disappointment for so many reasons. I don't think the show is healthy for people, and it didn't empower me. It made me want to throttle the trainers and the producers (which, in and of itself, might be empowering)...

They didn't make as big a whoop about it last night, because they kept putting the emphasis on the women needing to lose like 31 pounds to beat the guys. It's an easy thing ti miss.

And it seemed like there were WAY more ads last night!

Ok, I guess I'm strange because I like this show!!
I think the temptations are totally necessary...(we are all faced with all kinds of temptations in the "real world"...I think the trainers are great...in fact a little like my Drill Sgt.s. were... One of the guys stated that the Jillian said to expect only a smaller weight loss the second week so I don't think that any of them were expecting this Huge weight loss!! I just wish they would do one with a low carb lifeystle...then those people would kick some serious booty and not be starving all the time!! The one thing I didn't get was why they changed the whole weigh in thing...I thought the deducting 5 lbs. lost from the other team was way better!! This show is pretty good but I still like Survivor and Amazing Race better. All this talk about tv...What is you absoloute favorite show?? I just love 7th heaven and Gilmore Girls!!

I haven't seen this show but shows like it drive me crazy. I get all fluffered up and yell at the t.v "Put me on that show to help these people! I'll have them crying with happiness!" Lol! I think these shows miss the point about how they get these people to change their eating style. Like Celebrity Fit Club puts them on Nutri System...they aren't learning anything except to open up a package of food. *sigh*

Well, reality shows do not in any way imitate "reality". When was the last time you, oops, accidentally got stuck on an island, or went for an interview with Donald Trump. It's all about the entertainment value. It's true that these trainers and their (so-called) diet are much harsher than anything that goes on in real life, but the "cast" seemed to be so happy to be there (well, when the show was over and they had lost weight). I'm not disagreeing with anything anyone has said because they are all good points. I'm just trying to add some perspective. If they wanted to make a show about real life, i.e., starting the day drinking coffee while applying mascara, dropping kids off at school, running for train, missing train, getting in to work late for meeting, etc. etc. how exciting would that be? No one would watch it because it's too much like real life. It's all about the entertainment. I'm glad I've never had to jump through hoops and get into cat fights to get a job, but I'm gonna be there tonight watching them all do it on the Apprentice. LOL My dh says he's bored with all these shows now. We're going to have to go back to "unreal" shows, I guess. Boring.
