LOS ANGELES -- ABC is offering condolences to a woman who said being dropped from the show ruined her life, saying producers "endeavor to handle each potential makeover participant with the utmost care."
Deleese Williams is suing ABC and its parent company, Walt Disney, for breach of contract, willful infliction of emotional distress and negligence.
The lawsuit claims that after a dental surgeon said he'd have to break and reset her jaw for a successful makeover, producers dropped her because the recovery time wouldn't fit into their schedule.
She reportedly got the news just hours before the surgery was to take place.
Williams said the decision subjected her to needless humiliation and drove her sister to suicide over guilt because producers goaded her into insulting Williams' appearance.
ABC said "Extreme Makeover" participants are told in advance their surgeries may not happen if producers or doctors have concerns.
