Someone help me with this gloomy cloud...

I just recieved an email from my daughter, saying she is enlisting into the Army to be a veternarian. Her and her fiance who is in the army are getting married next month so they will be assigned together. Now both my kids will be gone.
I know...I know...I should be proud. I am very proud. Just going to miss them.
I am sorry to blubber on about my kiddos, but I have been soooo down lately.

Aw geez, mcotton! If my kids were going to be away for an extended period of time, I'd be sad, too!

I am super proud of them for serving our nation. And I'm super-proud of you, too, for raising such good kids!

And what's with military veterinary medicine? Are there now elephants fighting on the front? Kidding...I knew what you meant...

I guess if gas prices keep going up, they will bring back the horses. I love you guys... people are the best people!!!

So sorry you are worrying about your kids. That's part of a Mom's job isn't it. We never really let them grow up and never worry about them again, do we. It's like we have this worry sticker plastered on our forehead and then for them to leave and go in the Army; well that's just double worry and missing them all rolled up in one. I know it will be hard but those letters will be precious to you. Just think, you can write often, send care packages with goodies in them often, and talk with them on the phone. I know it won't be the same but it will help. It will also make when you do see them a lot more special.

BTW - I'm like Cleo - what does the Army need with Vets?

I sort of wondered about the Veterinarian thing, too - I can understand almost any other occupation.

I know you're going through mixed feelings, but you've been given a good deal of great advise, so, as a military person, I just want to say that I would be very pleased to have a mom as caring as you are.

She might be joining the service to earn money for college to become a vet later on. Or, perhaps they need vets to care for the dogs that are part of the K-9 units with the military. The U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps use dogs to sniff out bombs, patrol the streets, and protect their handlers.

Actually Piasa you are correct on both accounts. I never realized that they had a special unit for animals. They use dogs for mantrailing, cadaver, bombs, drugs and so forth. They even care for military family animals as well as other things. She also is going in for college money as well. She has been in college. This is her third year, but couldn't figure out what she wanted to do untill now. It has been rough putting her through school. She has decided to go in before christmas so she can get more bonus money. My son will leave for Naval Basics about the same time as her. Both leave the end of this month.

I can only imagine how hard it is to let 'em go. But it's a great way to be able to earn some money and travel the world to wonderful and different places.

On a blond, lighter note: I wonder if they need veterinarians to take care of the Navy Seals?

mcotton, you have raised some wonderful kids there. I really don't have the words to express my feelings at this moment.

Do you have more family members around there to comfort you and keep you company? I hate to think of you being all alone. How about hobbies? Will you have something to keep you busy?
