      12 years old, for shame.

I know I wasn't allowed to wear any make up at all until I was 17, and then if my dad thought it was too much, he used to drag me up the stairs and scrub my face with soap before I could leave the house. My dad was very strict about clothing and make-up...I guess most parents just don't care anymore.

OMG! All those guns!!!! That is scary!!!! You couldnt even tell by his clothes.

I wish they would have had dress codes when I was in school.....then I wouldn't have had to wear ugly, teal stretch pants in 4th grade

Re: Some Students Embarrassed By Dress Code T-Shirts

My Dad was super strict about clothes...so I changed before and after school at a friends house. I wasn't 1/2 nekkid though like some girls these days. I just preferred mini skirts and my Dad wouldn't allow it. Or makeup...I just put it on at school or a friends house. Not all parents allow what they're kids are wearing because they don't *know* what the kids are wearing if the kids get sneaky. My Dad was insane though...I wasn't even allowed to talk on the phone or sit in the living room when he was home. Dad came home...go to your room...stay there.

I'm pretty reasonable with my kids and as long as it's appropriate I'll let them wear what they want. However being only 11 and 9 and male they really don't care what they're wearing. lol! At least not yet...I'm dreading the teenage years....big time.

Rules are made for a reason...you can't follow the rules, you get punished...

Problem is nowadays, people are pansies...quick to find reasons to sue without think about the consequences.

all of Most DISD schools here have dress codes, polo shirts and khakis as apposed to shorts 5x to big and shirts down to their knees..

Gosh Buga your dad was way worse than mine! But, I would never had had the nerve to disobey him and sneak around and change clothes! I got caught at everything I tried to do on the sly -- it just was so not worth it! so I learned quickly!

FTF - I think the polo shirts and khakis are a great idea. All schools should have a uniform of some sort, that way kids don't feel bad because maybe their family can't afford the name brand jeans like everyone else has and everyone is on an equal level and can concentrate on what they are there for instead of what the latest fashion craze it.

I think they should make everybody wear some cheap shoe.. lol... seriously.. SHOES are the worst 'status symbol'...

I've bought my nephews shoes since they were born.. it's just a ritual... but a week or so ago.. I gave them a $60 limit... and told them if they wanted different shoes they could spend the balance from their own money.....

funny how they both decided they could live without the $130 SHoX!

                  I hear you Peytonn.

Your $60 dollar allowance is way more generous than mine. I offer $50 and anything over The Boys must pay out of their own pocket. Anything under $50 they get the difference. And since I love to shop I would happily drive all over town to find a pair.

Last season the older twin wanted $100 Nikes...and he paid for half. The other found a pair for $46 and he got the $4 difference.

It works and they don't seem to resent me for it.

I can't fuss too much about their choices though... when they were little.. we'd go to the Nike outlet store... the limit was $25... but as they've grown up.. and prices change.. it's harder.. Ethan is 15 now.. in a man's 10... Salem is in that DEAD zone.. a 7 youth BARELY still fits... but an 8 adult is way too big... (width and everything.. he still has skinny little feet)....

when Ethan went through that phase.. he happily wore women's shoes.. LOTS of them mine.. but now it's harder to find 'guy colors' in the womens running shoe dept. (they mostly buy sneaks for PE at school... they wear boots on a daily basis)..

the shoe obsession is a family tradition... remember me and my Frye boot obsession? I just bought my 14th pair.... but they'll be with me until I die...

the only thing I spend money on is my boots... that's for myself... it's crazy.. I'll buy a $10 denim jumper from Dollar General to wear with them....

I spend WAY more on my nieces and nephews than I do myself...... it's just that my ONE indulgence... about one pair a year or so.. is the boots.. the frye campus... the one's that have looked the same since the 70's...

the boys on my husbands ball team make fun of me because I still drive a little 81 toyota wagon a LOT of the time... I actually DO have a better vehicle.. jeff bought me a new tacoma pickup in 04... but I like driving the 'puddle jumper'... I don't have to worry about the doors getting hit.. or I don't have to worry about a foul ball smashing it......

I am honestly NOT pretentious at all... it's just that I love those stupid boots... it's my only indulgence that costs money
