I can share a story that was told to me by a friend of mine who was a Marine and has NEVER been a man to tell a tale.

One night some Marines were playing with a Oiuja board in the barracks. When he walked in, he felt a weird presence, and then the Ouija board told the Marines that there "was a Believer in the room". G was a Christian. The board acted erratically ...until he left.

I have one I can share with you. When we lived in Hawaii in 1989, my husband had all night duty at the base. We lived in Government housing. My kids...7rs old and 11 years old went to bed. I was in the room across the hall. They came in a while later and woke me. Said dad was downstairs playing music and making lots of noise and they couldn't sleep. I listened and heard nothing. I told them to go back to bed. They came back into my room about an hour later and woke me with the same story. I went downstairs and there was nothing out of the ordinary. I put them in my room and we went to sleep.

The next morning, I got up and was outside watering my plants and two of my neighbors asked me if I had a party the night before. I told them "no", but they insisted they heard music playing and sounds like furniture being moved inside my apartment. I never did find out what happened that night, but it sure was strange.

Re: Do you have any stories of paranormal experiences?

I have two stories. One unfortunately is about my sister. She died when I was 19 and she was 18. My mom always felt her presence for a few weeks after she died. One time my mom was lying on her bed facing the door and I was in the room with her. She said "did you see that? It looks kind of like a grey cloud." It was heading towards my room which was beside my parent's room. Suddenly the dog went nuts and started barking his head off at the air. Kind of freaky. She went away soon after that.

The other story is when we moved into our previous house. We had 3 bedrooms and we used the front room for ourselves and put ds in the middle room. I was going to paint the 3rd room and move ds into it so I could then prepare the middle room for dd, who had not yet been thought of. Anyway, I noticed that it was always cold in that room and when I opened the closet a draft would blow in. The room wasn't drafty though, but I used to feel that something was there sometimes. As we started getting to know our new neighbours they told us about the people who used to live there. They said a guy od'd in one of the upstairs rooms. I asked which one. They came in and showed me. It was the middle room. I asked him nicely to move it along, that we really needed the room for our child. And then he left.

Re: Do you have any stories of paranormal experiences?

When I was a kid we used to spend a couple of weeks every summer at my grandparent's house. My uncle and his family lived there. It was an old farm house, built in the "Georgian style" so when you went upstairs the landing was a room-sized hall and the rooms all opened onto it. This hall was used as a family room. Anyhow, whenever we went to visit, my sisters and I would get to sleep in this large hall/family room. My aunt and uncle slept downstairs in a room just across from the stairwell.

So one night my sister wakes me up and says "Shhhhh. Just listen." There were footsteps at the bottom of the stairs. A shuffling type of footstep. They didn't turn or pause, they seemed endless. There was also a glow at the bottom of the stairs. We listened for maybe 5 minutes and finally woke our other sister up. She was a teenager and told us to stop being stupid and go to sleep.

The next morning we told our mom, who told our uncle. Who said he never heard anything---because his bedroom was right next to the stairs.

            Other spooky stuff....

The doctor's office I currently work at. Sometimes in the morning, you can smell coffee, biscuits, and bacon and eggs cooking. I've smelt it and one of my bosses have smelt it. It happens around 7:00 AM, when we are the only office in the building that is opened and the cooking smell is concentrated in the office of one of my other bosses. It's really weird, because it's not like you walk in and there's the smell. The smell comes on very subtle, like someone is actually in the process of cooking. The first thing is a very light coffee brewing smell which gradually gets stronger. Then you can smell bacon fat heating up. The bacon smell gets stronger and then you can smell eggs frying. Finally, you get a strong whiff of fresh biscuits. This doesn't happen all year: it mainly happens for a few weeks every spring.

The other weird thing about this office. One of my bosses has seen a man sitting in our waiting room. In fact, she's even called out to him "Hello? Can I help you?" Everytime, she's seen that man, one of our patients dies. No one else sees this man. I remember the first time she saw the guy, she walked by and asked us who that guy was in the waiting room because it was during lunchtime and we don't see patients around that time.

            And now the spookiest...

When I worked at a children's hospital we had a little boy who was dying of AIDS. He was a really sweet, intelligent little guy who acquired AIDS from his drug-addicted prostitute mother (who had died of AIDS a year or so before). This little boy was frequently admitted to the hospital for AIDS-related complications, so he was well known to all of us. Even doctors who weren't involved in his care would say hello and play with him whenever he was admitted.

The last time he was admitted, he was doing very poorly and we all knew he was going to die. The doctors were giving him more and more morphin for his pain. His grandmother sais she didn't want anything done to him medically other than making him comfortable. Around 4AM, his condition worsened. The residents and us were around his bed talking to him, trying to cheer him up (if that was at all possible). He looked into an empty corner of the room and said "No, no. Not yet. I'm not ready yet." Then he started talking to us about some Power Ranger episode he liked. A little while later, his breathing got slower and he looked at that empty corner again and said "Okay, I'm ready now." Then he looked at us and said "Don't worry. I'll be okay. Don't cry. I'm fine." About 40 minutes later he died.

That's all the spooky stuff I have to share right now.

Re: Do you have any stories of paranormal experiences?

              Egads.

Spooky, but not scary- When Dh & I moved into the yellow house, all of the previous owners stuff was still in there. Jon was 100 years old when he moved out of the house and in with a family friend (he had no family). His wife, Jenny, had died 25 years previously in the house - a wiring issue - the house smoldered and Jenny died of smoke inhalation. When we moved in, I had to pack all of their belongings, but I had an odd feeling while I was in the house - like I wasn't the only one there. As I started to pack Jenny's things, the feeling got stronger and stronger. I felt like a total goober, but I spun around and said outloud, "You know, Jenny - this was your house for a long, long time and I'm not about to ask you to leave it. I'm going to ask that we co-exist here in peace. I have children and I don't want them scared. I'd like to leave a couple of your things here so you're more comfortable." I kept a swan dish and a glass do-dad out as knick-knacks up on the shelf, and I never felt mennaced by the presence again - but there were several times I'd walk through the hallway and smell pipe tobacco. It was a pleasant smell, and when I smelled it, I'd just pause and say hello and it would go away.

Before that - when I met dh he owned a condo. The condo used to be an apartment building for seniors only before they upgraded and sold them. The whole building was haunted - honestly. There were several incidents while I lived there with dh. Briefly:

Anytime I was in the house alone, the hair on the back of my neck would stand up on end. You know that feeling like someone is behind you and watching you - and they're not thinking nice thoughts? That's the kind of skin-crawling, hair-raising feeling I'd get. It took me about a month to figure out that everytime it happened I'd find myself turning and looking in the EXACT same spot in the house. Every single time. It honestly scared the you-know-what out of me. Dh thought I was a nut.

Oddly though, dh's mom brought him to a psychic (dh *was* a total non-believer, but his mom is a psychic junkie and he went with her. LOL). The psychic told dh that he had two spirit "guides", and one of them was a ranch-hand- but that this guide seemed to be more tied to where dh lived than dh. She also told dh to be careful because this particular guide didn't like women and would make any woman in his house very uncomfortable.

              Yeah. No .

I had a habit of taking a shower and then getting dressed in the dining room. (Don't ask. LOL) The condo's patio door faced the parking lot, so my habit was to close the drapes and turn on the lights, then go shower. Countless times I'd go shower, come out and the drapes would be open and all the lights would be off. Wha???

I'm very much a creature of habit. Things go where they go. I'd go look for something that belonged to me and it would be no where to be found. I was cleaning out the closet in the hallway next to the bathroom and I found a bunch of my stuff stashed on the very top shelf, all very ordered, lined up and neat - and under some sheets. My razor, my hair scissors, various barettes, etc. Wha???

I worked as a bartender/cocktail waitress during this time, so I'd get off work at 1am and home by 1:30. I parked in the front and I could see our place as I walked up to the building. As I'm walking up, I look up and see the bedroom window blinds part, so I wave to dh and go on in. I hurried upstairs because I had to go potty REALLY bad, so I hit the door (unlocked), dropped my coat and purse on the hallway floor and RAN for the bathroom (cursed weak bladder! LOL). As I'm going, I'm talking to dh .."WHEW! I wasn't sure I was going to make it! It's been a long night, and I didn't think I was ever going to get out of there..." blah blah blah. I come out of the bathroom and NO ONE is home. No one - but I *saw* the blinds part and I *felt* like I wasn't the only one in the house. I got really mad at first because I thought dh was screwing with me and was trying to scare me. I carefully looked through the house - no one there - and it scared me so bad I sat in the hallway. About 20 minutes later dh showed up. Wha????

During that time my son starting having night terrors - and he didn't have to be asleep to have them. Aaron would come screaming out of the room and tell me & dh that the "hairy little monkey men were poking [me] and hissing and chasing [me]". Odd- was never sure what to make of it, but it stopped when we moved out.

The cincher? Dh & I went out one night, came home and went downstairs and picked Aaron up from the babysitters. It's 2am, I'm holding this sleeping kid and dh opens the door and we start to walk in. The man stopped dead in his tracks and I saw the goosebumps all over him. He stuck his hand out behind him and told me, "Stay RIGHT HERE. Don't move." I, of course, froze. Dh was scared and that's just unlike him. All the lights in the house were on. He ventured real carefully through the hallway and I heard him gasp, so dummy me, I walk around the corner instead of staying put. LOL He pointed into the living room and as bright as could be -the light in the corner was on full blast (one of those hallogen lights). It wouldn't have been so creepy except that the bulb had been burnt out for at least a couple of months. Dh walked up to the light and when he reached out to touch it, POOF! Loud pop and out it goes. We both sort of chuckled and I told him I was going to go lay Aaron down. I walked into the bedroom and froze in my tracks. On our bed was every stuffed devil in the house (dh collected tazmanian devils) - all of them lined up very neatly and facing the bedroom door. I screetched, dh came running and the hair on the back of both of our necks stood straight up. He told me then, "Okay. You win. Something is SERIOUSLY wrong here." - by the way, dh kept the devils up on top of the fireplace mantal and on the top curtain rod in the living room and dining room.

We moved 2 weeks later. LOL Screw that.

Dh's sister bought a condo downstairs from dh and when her and her dh would fight pictures would literally fall off the walls and things on tables would shake. We saw it for ourselves. People all over the building reported freaky stuff like that.

The value of that condo skyrocketed over the next 5 years and I have to be honest when I say I don't care. I'm glad we got out when we did because I honestly NEVER felt safe in that place. It was just WEIRD.

I swear, I'm not one prone to hysterics nor have I ever been a big believer in this sort of stuff - but I'm here to tell you - there are some things that just don't feel right and can't be explained. That condo was one of them. ICK.

Dang Brook that stuff's scary as !!!!.When I was really really young I saw the ghost of my landlord's sister who died in the house. It was so spooky. And every time I would go to our landlord's apartment and she wasn't there(she was very fond of us so she always left the door open for us so we could go in as we pleased) and the hairs on the back of my neck would just raise becuase I would always feel a presence upstairs in her apartment. One time I got up in the middle of the night becuase I had to pee really bad and when I opened the door I saw her by the stairs just staring down at me.I was scared literally.I have never forgotten that. And there have been countless times when I have felt a presence or just see something that would whiz by in the blink of an eye. It's scary stuff really

Re: Do you have any stories of paranormal experiences?

I told my boss about this thread during lunch. Here's a story from her.

She went to a small college in the Northeast. The oldest building was begun in 1898 and the youngest building was completed in 1959. The youngest building was haunted. The story goes around final exams one of the female students was sitting on the sundeck of the dorm and she either fell off or jumped off. This happened in the late 1960s. Anyhow, during finals and midterms her spirit is unusually active (naturally). She can be seen haunting the chapel (hangs around the door but never enters), haunts the fifth floor lounge of the building, haunts one of the stairwells and a wing of the building. By the time my boss was a student, the building wasn't used as a dormitory for the students at the college, but it was rented out to the other universities as grad student housing. The chapel was locked up and the furnishing within it were removed. My boss says that one afternoon she was in the building and near the chapel waiting for the elevator and she could hear furniture being moved around inside the locked chapel.

editing to add another story from my boss:
The hospital she did her residency at was haunted in several places: there was a room in the post-partum ward that had a rocking chair that rocked on its own. A ghost nurse who pulls the little caps newborn babies wear over their eyes. There was a really weird event that happened one night. Boss was walking from the emergency room to her on-call room within the pediatric floor. When she was about the go into the pediatric wing, the security guards stopped her and asked if she saw anyone in the hallway. Boss said no. Then the guards told her to be careful and if she or the other resident had to go outside of the pediatric wing that night, security would escort them back and forth. So, that freaked boss out, because obviously there was a homicidal maniac on the loose in the hospital. When she got inside the wing, she asked one of the nurses what that was all about. An hour or so before, the hospital operator got a call from a room in the adjacent wing. The caller said "Help! Help! The patient in room (whatever it was) needs help now!!" The problem was the adjacent wing was closed for renovation. The entire wing was gutted, so there were no rooms, no patients and definitely no telephones.

                    Here's one from my family:

When she and Daddy were newly weds, they lived with my Daddy's family for a few months, then they moved out to a small house a few miles away. Mom didn't like the house at all and she couldn't figure out why. Anyhow, one night she woke up and saw a man standing at the foot of the bed. She thought it was Daddy and exclaimed "Roy why are you up?". Then she realized Daddy was fast asleep beside her. Well, Mom screammed because she thought it was a burglar. When Daddy woke up and turned on the lights there was no one there. After that Mom said she would see a shadow from the corner of her eye around the house. Daddy never saw it and really never beleived it, until evening. He had come home a couple of hours early and similar to Brook's story, he came home and heard Mom in the kitchen fixing dinner. He called out to her that he was home and that work was X, Y, Z that day and that whatever she was cooking smelled really good. He walked into the kitchen: no food; no Mom; no Mom fixing dinner. They moved back in with his parents that night.

Re: Do you have any stories of paranormal experiences?

I had a best friend growing up (still have her actually LOL) named Brooke.

Brooke's grandmother died when we were around 11. The family was of course devastated. Well, Grandpa remarried a few years later, and he and his new wife (who was grandma's best friend) lived in the house the family had owned for 50+ years. Grandpa's new wife died, and then shortly thereafter Grandpa died. Grandma and Grandpa had 5 children, and the estate was split among them all. Brooke's mom asked the other siblings if she could buy the house, and they agreed, so she bought out all of their share of the house.

Brooke told me that Grandpa is haunting the house because when she is doing dishes she will sometimes catch a glimpse of him in the window above the sink. One day she was home alone and she heard the door open, close, and then something was set down on the kitchen table. She thought her mom had brought home groceries, but when she went to see, there was no one there, and the door was still locked. Brooke's mom also told me that she'll get that "hair on the back of my neck standing up" feeling from time to time.

Last time I was home (california) I went to go see them, and I told them specifically I wanted to visit w/ Grandpa's ghost. They laughed at me and Brooke's mom told me that someone had told her what to do about the ghost. Evidently Grandma was MEAN LOL I don't remember, because she died when I was still fairly young, and I didn't see her that often. But it was Brooke's mom's opinion that Grandpa didn't want to "cross over" because Grandma would give him **** on the other side, so one day she said "Dad, you have to go, I know Mom is going to be mad, but you're just going to have to deal with it! We love you very much, and tell mom we love her too."

After that the "encounters" stopped. (damn! I really wanted to see a ghost!)

This is really an interesting thread. I personally have never had an encounter like this, but dh and his family do. It seems his grandmas house is haunted. His parents are living in the house again to take care of his grandma, and things are still happening. I always feel a little creeped out when we go visit!

Re: Do you have any stories of paranormal experiences?

DH told me of the time he was alone at his grandparents' house, while they were camping one summer. He was laying on the couch, when all of a sudden he heard some old time music playing in the attic and the sound of someone tap dancing to it.

When his grandparents came home, he told them about it. Apparently, one of his grandmoter's brothers used to really tap dance to music up there!!

One night, December, 1981 (a couple of weeks after DH's other Grandmother passed away, we were going out. While he was locking the door, I thought I heard someone call out his name. He didn't hear it. When we came, I heard it again, but this time so did DH. It sounded like a much older woman. We called up my grandmother, who lived next door, to see if it might be her. It wasn't. To this day, we're convinced that it was his grandmother.

When we were first married, we rented one half of a duplex. One day, after getting home from work, I was washing a couple of things at the kitchen sink. For some reason, I turned my head to the right and looked down to the doorway between the kitchen and dining room. I saw what appeared to be the lower part of a man's legs, which were crossed (I couldn't see the upper part of the body, but apparently he was leaning against the doorway). The other thing that caught my attention, were the shoes that he was wearing - a pair of brown and white "spectator" shoes, which were identical to a pair that my one grandfather had and he also used to cross his legs in the same manner. What makes this incident even more ironic is that in the last year of his life, my grandfather had to have his legs amputated due to gangrene(sp?). Also, one night, at the same place, DH and I were going upstairs, to bed. Just as we were about to go upstairs, I caught a whiff of a man's cologne/aftershave. The only person I personally knew that wore that fragrance, was this same grandfather.
