    Re: Wilma

I live in an apartment. It's nearly 5:00 am, Sunday Morning. Hubby and I are packing up the car and headed to Georgia.

See you all when this is over!

We're safe. No power, no cable. Temperature is dropping fast! Minor damage to the house. Was a rough day! I'll be back when I get cable back!

I'm back home. We have power, and our apartment took some minor damage. Some of the siding came off of the building, and some of the shingles. No water damage inside. Yay!

                    Re: Wilma

We lost one large palm tree and our rickety old dock and boathouse is damaged beyond repair. It was real old, but cleaning up the boards and nailing down the exposed nails and getting the planks to curbside for pickup will certainly be exercise enough for me for quite sometime.
Thank goodness we put up our storm panels...it was stronger than I thought, but we didi not lose power, which is my greatest fear. I can't stane no power. We were without it for 9 days last year in Frances, and one learns to love the sound of a functional generator!!!!

Glad to hear you're o.k. I know what you mean, I think the longest we've been with out power here was 13 days after one hurricane and 11 days after an ice storm! It sucks, especially when you don't own a generator!

Thank goodness that you'd didn't sustain any more damage than you did! Palm trees can withstand pretty strong winds, its amazing when one goes over!

I went without power for 7 days in 2003 because of a ice storm. Not fun. Acey, glad you're safe.

We are fine. Lost power for a day. No major damage this time around thank goodness. Cable is out so working with dial up which is no fun, but oh well, there are still thousands with no power so I can't complain. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the grocery stores to stock up again. Publix yesterday was running on generator, so of course their cash registers worked but they had no perishable items at all. Luckily I stocked up pretty well before hand. Gas stations are getting generators so they are actually able to pump the gas they have, that helps! Took 2 hours in line the other day once I found a station with power. Then they only let you have $20 worth which was just a little over 7 gallons. Luckily by the time I got home our power had been restored!

Glad to hear it Barb! They've been showing the lines at the gas stations on the news here.

We're also hearing alot of people whining because the local govt. isn't taking care of them, LOL, since when is it the govt's responsibility to take care of everyone, especially those folks that didn't bother to stock up and get prepared when they were warned well in advance. I'm glad that you're smart enough to take the steps to be stocked up when one of these storms is coming!

Hi Mog. I was just catching up on this thread. I had power due to generator. I still have no cable so am using dial up. Man does dial up drag!!!
The gas situation is ridiculous! You only can store so much gas. And the generators go through it! I cannot believe that these gas stations don't have backup power for these kinds of situations! And I understand the rationing, but in these days? $20 is not going to get you a day on a full size generator! Things are getting better every time, but then more flaws come out! LOL. Sheesh.
OK it took me 10 minutes to be able to post this message. My time here is done.
                                Have a good day.
