  • We've adopted!

Some of you might remember that two months ago we had to put down our sweet little Moochiecat. I can't say we're over it yet, we loved her so much and I had 13 wonderful years with her.

Out of bad things come very good things though. When we donated her things to the SPCA we got interested in the place and I'm signed up to take volunteer training in November. Bf and I have been going there at least once a week to visit the kitties and we met Ella.

    http://www.spca.bc.ca/victoria/cats/ella7551.html

Ella was miserable in a cage, and hated the other cats so she had a whole big unused office space to herself. One of the fellows at the SPCA had an office off of this area so she would spend most of her day in there with him, so that's good. Today would have been five months that she has been at the shelter.
The shelter people were all so excited for her and us...it was wonderful and I was half in tears the whole time we were there. I look forward to being able to spend more time there in the future.
There are so many lovely sweet cats available at shelters and I urge everyone to think about getting an older animal as opposed to a kitten. They have so much love to give.
We decided on Ella, and then I kept thinking about the other cats there, and how deserving they are to have a home, and I realized that no matter which cat we chose, there will always be other cats that I really want to take home as well. Hopefully volunteering will make me feel like I'm helping them.

Anyway (long email!!) she's settled in very nicely...she had a bite of food last night and some water, and this morning she had a poopy in her litter box, so that's a sign that she's got things figured out.
She slept on the foot of the bed and didn't disturb us at all...she seems like she's just made herself right at home.

We feel like this is a home again. It's sad, because we miss Moochie so much, but it's a good feeling to give someone new a home.

Hi Moochie, I am so very sorry about your precious Moochiecat. I had to put down one of my kitties 1-1/2 yrs ago and I'm still not over it. My other one just turned 13.

Ella is a beautiful girl!! I love that name, too. Congrats on your new addition!

Love her coloring. My dd wants a cat, I'm allergic, but willing to give in because, alas, I do like cats and Oscar would have a friend to pal around with in the house while we were gone.

            Re: We've adopted!

Good heavens...last night was the second night of Ella being here and obviously she lulled us into thinking that she was a cat who would be quiet all night!
There was much meowing, playing, flailing about in joyful abandon on the cat tree, chasing of toy spiders and mice, more meowing, wandering around (while meowing), a few catnaps, and then there was the meowing!
She's going great guns this morning as well...racing around, playing, riveted to the tub drain watching the water go after bf's bath, still beating up that spider and trying to crawl under the carpet runners!!

Our Moochie was so mild-mannered and mellow! We aren't used to this! lol
We're enjoying it though, and we realize that it's just going to take time for her to find her routine and for us to learn who she is.

This is only the second cat I have ever had, so bear with me..lol

I'm allergic to cats too. But I have found thru the years that I am allergic to some and not others. That might be the case with you. When we got our cat, he was just a tiny little guy, but I took him under the condition if anyone had allergies after a two week trial the people we got him from would take him back. I am glad we tried. No allergies.

Ella is just beautiful! She is lucky to have found you guys! Many happy, healthy and fun years together for all of you!

                  Hi Moochiecat,

I'm sorry to hear about you losing your furkid, it's so hard. But, that's so cool that you adopted! Ella is just adorable and she looks like a handful! Congrats!

Moochie...Ella is gorgeous!!!!!! A real talker huh? Our orange cat talks a lot but our Maine Coon rarely meow's. She has such a tiny meow it's hilarious.

I agree with everyone who said what a great home Ella has. My first thought when I saw you adopted was "That is going to be one spoiled kitty!" Lol! It's o.k to spoil our pets though! Goodness knows our 2 cats are spoiled rotten.

She looks like our cat (who we also adopted from the SPCA in Victoria). She and her sister - but they don't look or act anything alike, for the most part.

Congrats, and also on your volunteering there.

We also got our girl dog there . . . she's a beauty. Our son fell in love with her off the website, and we had to go check to see if she was already adopted.
