    Re: We've adopted!

    Thanks everyone!
When you adopt from the SPCA you get a free vet appointment included, so you can go and have the animal checked out, so we did that today. The vet we go to wasn't on the list, but they said "Sure, bring her on down!" We love our vet clinic..they are so wonderful. They sent us the most touching condolence card a few weeks after Moochie's passing...very caring folks.

So Ella is in pretty much in really good health, and by the end of the exam she was lounging on the scale and acting like she did that every day...lol
Even though she's not a kitten, the vet gave her a "Welcome Kitty" kit, with some catnip, toys and such. It was really cute.

She's so different than Moochie...it's fun getting to know her. She has no concept of personal space and will come right up to you with her nose an inch from yours...it's a little disconcerting at first, but it's just what she does..it's pretty funny. Not so funny at 5 am, mind you...but funny.

So, everybody, go hug your pets a good one for Ella and me!!

She just needs a little love!

Our kitty does the same thing, and if you don't pay attention to her she heads down to any feet that might be sticking out of the covers, and proceeds to gently nibble! Owww!

Its so sweet reading your story about Ella and adopting her. I'm sad to hear about Moochiecat though, I'm sure she was lke a member of the family. I miss having a cat around, they add this special touch to a family and house, hard to describe!!

          Re: We've adopted!

Congratulations Moochie! I'm sorry to hear about losing your Moochiecat. We got a couple of kittens for the kids a few years ago and they were born with feline leukemia (we didn't know of course) and they died within two years. Very sad. We adopted two cats from the Humane Society about a year later. A big orange one who says "ew ew ew" in a high pitched voice when he wants something. The fluffly grey and white one has a deeper voice and it sounds like he's saying "wowww, wowww" all the time. He missed us on the weekend so we had to pick him up all the time and hug him. He also does the nose to nose thing. Yup. Critters are great. We also got our dog from a shelter. I agree with you - it would be easy for me to adopt all the animals, but we've got 3 now, that's enough fur to have around the house. Older animals still have lots of love and life left in them and it sounds like Ella will bring lots of happiness to your house.

            Re: We've adopted!

            "ew ew ew" "wowww, wowww"...lol

Moochie spoke Klingon as far as we could tell....sort of gutteral noises...it was pretty funny..and she made a sort of sharp "meh!" sound that has become a part of our vocabulary when we want to make a dismissive disgruntled noise. (Yes, we're cat nerds)

We haven't quite figured Ella out...once in a while (like after she watched the tub drain) she gave a long statement about the whole thing. She does seem to keep a running commentary to herself at times with little throat noises.

Oh, and let us all celebrate!! She got here on thursday afternoon, did a poopy on friday(or was it saturday morning) and then nothing since. I was getting worried but this morning she made up for the few days delay, so I feel better. I'm sure she feels better too. I figured it was like anyone when they travel or situations change, and that things would start..er..moving along after a while.

Today she'll be alone for about six hours while we're at work, so it's a big day for us.

Thanks for listening...lol...nothing like a childless couple in their 40's prattling on about their cat to bore everyone into tears...but I know I'm not the only animal lover here!

Oh p'shaw!!!! I've loved reading this thread! Having two cats (and 2 kids) they really become part of the family. My sister's cat Mau got put to sleep last weekend because they found out he had cancer. I was there less than 2 weeks ago and loved on him as much as I could because I missed my own kitties so much. She had him for about 10 years though so he had a nice life. We also talk "kitty talk" here! Lol! My husband will say "meow" at me out of the blue. On ICQ that's usually his opening line. And we also provide running dialouge for our cats. lol!
