  • Conversation with my 7 year old....lol

"Out of the mouths of babes"

The following conversation took place this morning during a marathon hair curling episode in my house this morning between Katy and me:

Me: "Your hair is saying, 'I don't want to curl!' today, Katy."
Katy: "Mom. My hair doesn't talk...it doesn't have a brain or a mouth."

Me: "Oh, you're right. So, we need a brain and a mouth to talk?"
Katy: "Yes." ::rolls eyes:: "You have to have a brain to *think* and a mouth to *talk*."

Me: "So, you think sometimes we need to use our brains before we can use our mouth's?"
Katy: "Well, of course! You have to think before you speak!"

    Well, of course!!

Sometimes she scares me with what comes out of her mouth, and her brain.....and yet, I still wonder if she's really 7 or just some old women stuck in a short body. lol.

Precious. My 3 year old boy is the same (I have a 4 year old boy as well, but he is mostly kick and explosion noises.) Two days ago we were outside and a car zoomed past much too quickly and he grumbled. "Some people."--too funny.

Aaah....see how observant our kids are? I love stories like those. It just so reminds me how much they really see that we may miss because of being so busy in our lives.

I work in a child developement center. It never ceases to amaze me at the intelligence of kids. They tell it like it is and they absorb every thing that they see and hear. The other day I gathered them up in a group to remind them of the rules before we went outside to do activities. I told them to stay with the group, no unfriendly screaming at each other, no punching and to just be safe and have fun. One little boy who is fairly new to our center said, "Yeah, and be sure to tell them the most important rule." I was surprised and asked him what it was. He said, "You know, don't smoke." These were all 5-7 year olds, so I didn't think to mention that rule to them.

My neice started flipping people off while driving at two. She would raise her pointer finger (thankfully) and stick her tongue out at people and say "idiots"... but she really thought she was flipping them off.. just like MOMMY!

That's what I love about a child's mind. They know how to tell like they see it.

Another good reason to be decent rolemodels to kids....I'm not saying I've been perfect, it's taken me 33 years to aquire some of the skills I've mastered from my kids. lol.
