  • Dr. Andrew Weil on Larry King Tonight. I'd love to ask him:

if your diet is so effective, why are YOU overweight? This guy has said that on a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet, adult women should eat about 160 g to 200 g of carbohydrates daily!!!! And men should eat about 240 g to 300 g of carbohydrates a day!!!!!

He has made comments that red meat is the least healthy food, and still spouts the high-carb, low-cal party line. His persona is friendly and comforting, which makes people trust him. I'd love to see a low-carber call in and talk with him about his diet, and how it's contributing to obesity!

    rant over.

Oprah has had him on a ton of times. He is a Harvard Medical doctor who stresses organic foods (which I agree with) and reduction in animal fats. He is pretty high-profile in the medical community.

His recommendations sound like what the ADA recommends. I followed the ADA diet once. I was always hungry! Low-fat is fine when coupled with low-carb. But a low-fat, high-carb combination has helped to keep me fat for the last 22 years!

Hmmm, I love Oprah, but you gotta remember, she's also been associated with Dr. Phil! You gotta take it for what its worth LOL and from what I've heard/seen of Dr Phil, that's not much!

He has a website that I visit every once in awhile. He likes to sell vitamins and rehashes of his book 8 Weeks to Opimum Health. I think some of his ideas are good but he absolutely doesn't like Atkins at all, but it may be professional jealousy.
Your right Democat, plus he's pretty much a windbag.

Dr. Phil drives me up the wall! He's another one who just loves to pontificate.

Me too cleo! I was a vegetarian and managed to gain weight once I stopped running 15 miles a week. I ate a lot of whole grains and vegetables, like Dr. Weil recommended. If I ate the 160-200 g of carbs that Dr. Weil recommends, I'd have to work out four hours a day to lose any weight. Complex carbs are still treated as sugar by the body and are dealt with by producing insulin.

                  Too funny MOG.

As far as Andrew Weil, I'm a firm believer in the "one diet does not fit all" theory. Low fat, high carb works for some. I know lots of vegans, and vegetarians, who are not overweight or unhealthy. My feeling is, good for them if it works.

It just doesn't work for me. I'll stick with what works. I don't feel the need to try to convince people that Atkins works. Let them see my results. My transforming body tells the story.

I feel the same way Apex, "one size doesn't not fit all"
