What do you give reputation points for?

In case you're not sure what giving 'rep' is, it's when you click on the little scale at the top right of a post and then give a little "I approve" message to someone.


I know some people give them for beer (*lol* not sayin' who) .
Some give them for humor reasons.
Some give them to cheer someone up.
Some give them to leave private notes to people.
Some give them if the person's done something great!

I give them for all of the above and more! Well, save for the beer.

As an aside, unfortunately my husband's ding dong received no rep points. But that's ok!
No. Really. It's ok.

If people don't give rep, that's cool! It's totally optional. More optional than flarelegs. Reallllly optional.

I never knew what rep points were. So if I have a rep power of 2 does that mean that 2 people gave me rep points? So I can give people rep points too? Like when I read their posts and spew all over the monitor?? Actually, they should owe me rep points for all the extra work they've caused me. lol Thanks Cleo. Rep points are given two ways:

Number of posts you make and the number of rep points you receive. Your real rep is the number based on posts. The second green dot means people gave you kudos for one reason or another and that is secondary rep.

I usually give them when I see someone going out of their way to be supportive or encouraging to someone else. I do forget, though, and as far as I can tell, you can only give it to one person one time. So there are people who (IMHO) should have more, but dont, because they have already been repped.
