    Re: American vs British

    Is Chesterfield a Canadian term? Cool!

    We can buy Rich Tea cookies here too RichT (hee hee). Now I'll think of you whenever I go down the cookie aisle, er, which is never, uh, so I guess I won't be thinking of you then. lol

    A British friend once told me a man asked her out for a "swift half" (pronounced hawf). I thought it was something sexy - turns out it just means a quick drink (i.e. a half pint of beer)

    Tights = pantyhose

    Bin Liners = garbage bags

    Tip = dump (as in "I must clean my house. It's a right tip"

      Actually they are here too Rich, but people tend not to know the difference between all of them, we have Jelly, Jam, Preserves and Marmalade and they are all a little different

      Jelly is made from fruit juice and so has no fruit bits.

      Jam is made by boiling fruit and does have fruit bits.

      Preserves are basically the same as jam...

      Marmalade typically is a citrus-based preserve, sometimes containing the rind, but other fruits can be used.

              Rich is just a young lad, Labarum! I thought chesterfield was a British word (well, everything we have here used to be yours at one time, wasn't it?) Isn't Chesterfield a place? Or maybe it was a Lord. Hmmm. I know it was a cigarette at one time.

                                Rich, in the southern us biscuits are an all the time food! Ours are sweet though and don't have any kind of fruit or anything in them--we have scones here too, but they aren't anything like a southern biscuit!
