  • Microwave your bra to stay warm this winter

TOKYO (AFP) - For the woman who wants to stay both warm and environmentally conscious this winter -- and isn't bothered by extra bulk under her shirt -- a lingerie maker has unveiled a thick bra that can be heated in the microwave.

Re: Microwave your bra to stay warm this winter

I heard that on the BBC radio news this morning, it followed up with a couple of men texting into the show asking if the same thing is going to be available to men, and I quote one of the messages "to keep our conkers warm".....

"Conkers". Hmmm...I'm going to have to remember that one. I used "willie" just yesterday...

This is off the bra topic, but it reminds me of when I was in college in snowy country and had an 8am math class...and I HATE math. I would keep my contacts in the fridge overnight and then when I popped them in in the morning......wow!! It was quite the waker-upper. lol

Re: Microwave your bra to stay warm this winter

A conker is a Horse Chestnut (not an edible chestnut). When they fall from the trees the children drill a hole in the best ones and atatch a string to them. There is then a contest to see who can smash the conkers of others in a game of colliding conkers. The game is also called Conkers.

Does that happen in the States?

As to its slang use - nuts and balls are more common than conkers.

"Bollocks" or "ballocks" is the diminutive of "balls".

A "Bullock" is a castrated bull kept for beef.

I suppose the diminutive is used because a bull without "ballocks" is pretty diminished.

                    Well, you did ask.

The testes are commonly called "balls" or "nuts", but in older English "stones" was used.

In those days the "nut" was the end of the bolt or shaft - the "glans penis", so in old texts you will see "the nut of a man's yard" used to describe the glans penis.

And "yard" here means "shaft" or "rod" as we see it in "steel yard" (a balance for weighing) or as in a "yard of ale", or simply in the linear measure 1 yard = 3 feet = 36 inches.

Is that too much information on straightforward old English?

May I add to this conversation that Bollocks is in fact thought of as a swear word in the UK. But its an amusing word and can add so much to a conversation!

"Conkers" is not really used that often, so when I heard it this morning it was even more amusing.

Yep I'll give it a go!

In many of british pubs (bars), you will see a cylinder type shape piece of glass, which holds beer, (our lager, but american beer). The aim of the "yard of ale" is to drink the whole lot in one go.

The problem is, the bulb type shape at the bottom. When full, it is imperative that you rotate the container whilst drinking so that there are no air bubbles. Thus enabling you to drink all in one bash......

I hasten to add, that I have never actually attempted this, but I have heard that is the way to do it!

                          Rich

Btw, Brian, does that answer your question!

LOL, nope I don't think we do that here. "Nuts" and "Balls" are our typical slangs as well though. Also called the "Family Jewels" btw.
