  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire...the movie

    So...what did you think??

DS and I went to see it on Saturday morning. I'm a total HP maniac, and GOF is my favorite book so I was really curious how they would condense such a large book into one movie. I thought the movie was excellent. I still loved the cinematography of Prisoner of Azkaban better, but this is a close second. It was slightly under 2 1/2 hours long, but it didn't seem like that at all...I was engrossed in the movie the entire time.

Two things worth mentioning. First of all, Voldemort is a LOT scarier in my imagination when I read the books. My son, who is 7, wasn't scared by him at all. To me he just looked like Ralph Fiennes in makeup. Second...this movie got a PG-13 rating...the first for a HP movie. But it was way way less scarier than Prisoner of Azkaban or even Chamber of Secrets. My son said that he wasn't scared even once.

    Your thoughts???

My DH has said he will go see it at the IMAX. I love HP, but he doesn't so he will only go when it comes to IMAX because he loves anything in the "round".

I can't wait to see this! I've been reading the entire series to my kids and we just started on HBP. They can't wait to see GOF! Last Friday they kept telling me "Goblet of Fire came out today." "Did you know Goblet of Fire started today?" My husband wants to see it too so we're planning on all of us going together. Hopefully this weekend.

Re: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire...the movie

I saw the film today, and it is so amazing how vastly different the directing styles are! I LOVE the Azkaban director, but this guy comes in a close 2nd!

The acting is better than EVER and the humor in this film was much appreciated to punctuate some of the more depressing scenes. I wasn't as much buying into the blue girls as being hotties. There are just some things that don't translate well into film. but the flourish with which both schools entered the dining hall was pretty awesome. I loved it.

I didn't get enough that Harry hadn't purposely put his name in, and while I think the house elf actually stole the weed Harry ate for the second challenge and it was then given by Neville, this was forgivable.

The special effects were--bar none--incredible, and I agree that Voldemoort was as frightening as my armpit. So the man looked like his English Patient character?! Big whoopie. Not impressed.

And did anyone else thing Crouch looked like Greg Brady? I kept thinking, "where's Marsha?"

All that aside, the emotion I felt most deeply was when Ron and Harry weren't getting along. That made me more sad than when Cedric died--although that was VERY upsetting. He was so cute, too!

It was scary enough and I think the death onscreen was what merited the PG-13 rating. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the Penseive and the scene with Voldemoort in that both were pulled off well, even if, like I said, Vooldemort looked like the English Patient minus a nostril.

I don't know about anyone else, but my favorite book was book 5, and I'm going to be there with bells on.

So, until gravity reverses itself and nothing on me droops anymore, make mine Potter!

Great. Now when we go see this on Sunday the first thing I'll think of when I see him is your armpit. Lol!!!! I kinda figured they wouldn't make him very scary mainly because of all the little ones that will see this despite the rating. I'll give my review after we see it. I'm looking forward to it!

I've pulled out book 1 and I'm gonna read them all over again in order.

NOW I'm gonna think of Cleo's armpit every time I see Voldemort again. Does this mean that now we refer to that body part as "The-part-that-must-not-be-named"??
