  • BigFoot - Legends in your area?

My husband and I viewed a few documentaries this week on Bigfoot. We did a some Google searches and found sightings in our area! EEK!

Do you have any legends or sightings in your area?

Here's one of the links we found: http://www.bfro.net/

I have one. This happened when I was pregnant with my first child back in Fort Hood Texas 1976. The clinic where they had the pregs go was separate from Darnell hospital. We had to go down a road that went through woods to get there. There started to be reports of BIG FOOT running out in the road and scaring people. One man had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. Another lady who was preg wrecked her car into a tree. I love hearing about UFO's, BIG FOOT and GHOSTS. So, I was hoping and praying to meet the creature. I didn't. But, after I'd had my baby and no longer went to that clinic, they found that some teens had made a costume and were jumping out of the woods in front of cars and scaring people.

I know what you mean...I love to READ about those stories and even watch then...but when darkness falls...I start getting twitchy! It is like I'm on "extra alert" with every noise I hear. When the dog barks, I'm wondering about something lurking outside...I scare myself!

Sad about the man having a heart attack and a preg lady hitting a tree.

No bigfoot in Maryland as far as I know. But in the next county they have the Goatman (summary: US goverment lab, something goes wrong, scientist mutated into half-goat/half-man, and allegedly haunts the immediate area). And there's also the Snallygaster, who's sorta like the Jersey Devil, but he's in another county too.

Around here we have the mysterious Blue Dog who haunts something called Peddler's Rock. The legend is that in the colonial era a peddler and his dog were killed on a certain road. By all accounts it looked like the dog did his best to fight off the attackers. But he and the peddler died. A small boulder on the shoulder of the road is still stained with their blood. Soon after, the apparition of a dog was reported to be seen in the area. The dog glows a bluish-grey color and appears on cold, stormy nights. George Washington reportedly saw the dog (the boulder is near the home of one of Washington's personal physicians, who was also a close friend). Some fifty odd years later, General Joseph Hooker reportedly saw it too. The road exists to this day. I've driven through it looking for the boulder, but I can't find it (might be further into the woods than "on the side" as the legend reports). And no, I haven't hung around there on cold stormy nights to find out if the dog really does exist.

In Wisconsin we had the Hodag. The Hodag was believed to eat small children after dark, only we actually had a stuffed Hodag, and it was embraced as more of a mascot.

If anyone has ever seen "The Legend of Boggy Creek", that was supposed to have taken place in Southern Arkansas. The creature is supposed to be something like Bigfoot. I've spent quite a bit of time down in that area, and spent a few weekends in the woods 20-30 miles from where it was suppose to have taken place. I never saw anything, but just the knowledge was enough to make for a few restless nights in the sleeping bag.

Living in NJ the big thing was always the Jersey Devil. There was "Essex Road" where boys used to take their girlfiends and tell them the story of the jersey devil to scare the bejeebers out of them.

Re: BigFoot - Legends in your area?

I forgot! Right outside of Slidell, LA, (where I used to live) we had the Honey Island Swamp. There was a creature called the Honey Island Swamp Monster that was supposed to live in there and be similar to BigFoot! It was also rumored that he ventured near Log Town (an old abandoned town near Lumberton, MS).

There was once a teenager with the handle of "Night Stalker" who went camping in the swamp in search of the monster. He had several newspaper articles about his adventures, but nothing concrete.

Re: BigFoot - Legends in your area?

I live in Oregon so Big Foot it is. Or sasquatch...however you spell it. There are people that go into the woods in my county and play the drums for him. Honestly, I don't know what they expect. You'd think bad music would be a sure fire way to drive him off. I don't believe in Big Foot anyway so I think it's silly. Personally I enjoy saying the word "chupacabra!" (draw out the last a) It's fun.

Re: BigFoot - Legends in your area?

                        Bug!

Hey! We heard of chupacabra too! There have been sightings in Florida by policemen (from the last I heard). The report was that he can change color like a chameleon and jump long distances.

It seems that if you play drums for an animal in the wild, it would go as far away as possible from the noise. That is funny that they go out there and do that.

We have also heard that Gulf Breeze, FL, is supposed to be one of the hottest spots for UFO sightings (if anyone is interested).

Thanks for the stories. I find this so interesting!!
