  • A Rhetorical Question

    I hate static!
I hate going to pet the cat and giving her a static snap on the nose, the poor thing! I hate having to stand by the stove flapping my hand at the stainless steel kettle to try and get that first static charge done with so I can make tea!!

My question is: Why do we still get static like crazy when the Pacific frickin' Ocean is literally 30 feet away from my front window? Huh? Huh? Why?!!
You'd think all that water would count for something, wouldn't you?

Anyway, rhetorical questions..no need to give me an explanation.

    What are your rhetorical questions??

    Re: A Rhetorical Question

My rhetorical question: If someone supports the Patriot Act abroigating 4th amendment rights to the government's ability to illegally search your home and seize your property but complains about President Clinton abrogating the same 4th amendment rights of people living in public housing in Chicago during his term and I slap them upside the head for being irrational is it gratifying?

        Re: A Rhetorical Question

lol Cleo that reminds me of a phone call from a very irate woman to the office. She made an new appointment for her 17 year old daughter (soon to be 18 in 3 weeks). She was told that since her daughter was still a minor, she had to be accompanied by a custodial parent. The woman flipped and demanded to know why. It was explained that the daughter was a minor and parental consent had to be given in order for the doctor to examine her. Otherwise, if the doctor examined the daughter without parental consent, the doctor could be charged with assault and battery. The woman flipped out again, saying that was ridiculous. She was informed that was the law. Then she said the daughter only had a cough. She was informed that it didn't matter because her daughter was new to the practice, she had to be accompanied by a parent. The woman flipped out more saying that she never heard of such a thing and that she couldn't believe it was a law and that her daughter only had a cold and she (the woman) wasn't going to take the morning off work just to bring her daughter to see a doctor (<----- the real reason why she was flipping out). Anyhow, our receptionist calmly explained that she agreed it is ridiculous that her child would need parental consent to be seen for a cold, but wouldn't need parental consent to have an abortion.

Might be but that's the law...While there is a parental notification law in my state, a physician can waive that notification under certain circumstances, but in all other medical cases (with the exception of emergency situations where a parent is not present), a minor child needs parental consent to be treated medically.

Anyhow....here's another puzzler. Lecture luncheons: are people going to hear the lecture or are they going to eat the food. And if you are the lecturer should you be disheartened that the tossed salad is getting more attention than you?

                          Re: A Rhetorical Question

Not2late - you must be from California!!! (Or a state pretty close to it). A point I wonder about - especially if you are in CA - as to why it is legal for a minor to have an abortion, not to be able to see a doctor w/o parental consent 3 weeks shy of 18, why DMV will allow them to obtain a license w/o parental consent at 17 1/2, and why educational districts won't allow students to write their own note or sign their own field trip slip when they are 18 - even if they live on their own?
