Re: What do you all do for a living?

Well I am a stay at home mom of 3...My DS is 12, DD is 8 and another beautiful DD that is 5. I love to be home with them!! My husband also works at home, so we have a full house.
Before kids, I was in high school...I had my son right out of high school, my dream was to be a singer, I had worked really hard for it with vocal lessons and dance lessons, I miss that part of me, and I still think about it sometimes. I am glad that I have kids, and I love them dearly, but sometimes I wonder where I would be if I had tried at my dreams.

I have a B.S. in Mechanical Egnineering and am a Sr. Process Engineer at my current company. We make Radio Frequency (RF/Radar) assemblies for cell phone applications (base stations), military equipment (radar jammers, spy equipment, secure satellite communications), and also commerical satellite applications (global satellite internet).

It is a very interesting and challenging job, which I like because it keeps me from getting bored with the whole thing!

At home I have my wife and two children a daughter 3 and a son 2. They are awesome and always the best part of my day.

Re: What do you all do for a living?

My job is boring too. I'm a real estate Title Closer in SW Florida. I work for a Builder and do closings on their new construction homes. Tomorrow is my 1 year anniversary in this line of work, and at this particular job.

My dream job was to be a nurse anesthetist, but a high school counselor told me that too many people were getting into health care, and that the market would be flooded with nurses, and I'd be with out a job most of my career. I wonder where that man is now? He certainly wasn't too bright, and how stupid was I for listening?

So,I went to school, but never finished. First I was interested in business management, then I realized that it sucked. Then I was interested in graphic design, but I realized so was everyone and his brother, and I certainly wasn't the best artist in school, so I became a massage therapist. I worked at a spa for 3 years, hurt my shoulder, and quit.

So now I do this. It certainly isn't my dream job, or the job I went to school for, but I do enjoy my work, most of the time. It can be absoulutely grueling at times, and the hours can be outrageous, but I work for and with good people, and honestly, I feel fairly content here.

Re: What do you all do for a living?

Currently I'm an administrative assistant to a investment agent..we do things like IRA's, we also sell life insurance, disability insurance, health etc etc. But we mostly do investments and retirement plans, both individual and group.

No, I never wanted to do this. I wanted to be a graphic artist, which I did for a few years as a second job, freelancing.

I bartended for years which I LOVED, but an injury ended that.

I've done all sorts of different jobs over the years. Dental assistant, photographer, waitress, snack bar cook, airline reservations etc etc., whatever I could find to pay the bills!

Ummmm, not to be nosy Mog, but what kind of injury would prevent you from being a bartender? I envy you working all those different jobs. I've only ever worked in an office. If I could afford the pay cut I'd like to try different things. Even working at the donut shop. I did work as a chambermaid at a hotel in high school though. I was really thin then. Cleaning 17 rooms twice a week will burn lots of calories.

I started off as an admin assistant. I wanted to be a theatre stage manager but my mom convinced me I should have something to fall back on. So I started off as an assistant in insurance brokerage firms and then onto an actuarial firm and now a real estate management company. I was so good at drafting leases that they decided to promote me when an opening came up. So I'm called a paralegal although I can't do any of the stuff paralegals in law firms do. My job as admin assist was actually more interesting than what I do now. I hadn't anticipated all the meetings and bureaucratic stuff that goes on. I spend more time reporting than working on my work. But I like the people here and the pay is okay and I don't have to stay late or work weekends so it works for my life. Someday though, dh and I would like to have our own business. maybe a small motel or inn. If I had the money I'd run an animal rescue organization.

LOL, you can "afford" bartending! I make at least 1/2 again as much doing that as I do doing this! plus uncle sam can't get his paws on all of it!

I was attacked by a drunken customer and, to make a long story short, I have 5 pins 2 plates and a wire holding my ankle together, I can't stand on my feet more than about an hour or so before it swells up and hurts like @%#@*,so a bartending shift is outta the question.

Wow, MOG! Is THAT story in your journal somewhere?

Currently I'm a Lease Administrator in a small town working for a man who owns about 20 shopping centers.

I like more people-involved positions and have looked for other jobs off and on, but this is not the place (town) to grow career-wise.

Growing up I dreamed of being a housewife -- it just seemed the most exciting thing to sew your own curtains, cook scruptious meals, make a sweet nest for you and your hubby, volunteer work at the hospital, visit shut-ins, etc -- and oh so romantic. However, life doesn't work out like you plan. If I knew that it would take so long to fall in love and that I'd be working most of my life, I would have went to college and got some type of business/marketing degree. Hum...as a teenager at times I also wanted to be a model or an actress... My brother always tried to encourage me to go to college, but I could never decide what I wanted to do. I'd change my mind every time I thought about it.

My jobs up until this point were: Customer Service Supervisor, Receptionist, Sales Coordinator, Church Secretary, Data Entry, Personnel Secretary, Administrative Assistant, Insurance Agent, Call Center Lead, and now Lease Administrator. (Seems like a resume, ay? )

wow.. so many interesting things everyone is doing here!

I am co-owner of a company that handles maintenance contracts for several major oil companies. It is a 24/7 company, but affords me my time here. And, this is my favorite..... a part time fitness instructor for Curves.

Re: What do you all do for a living?

I am currently a full time student at North Georgia College and State University.

Originally I went to the University of Georgia on an art scholarship, but after about 1 semester I decided that I just didn't enjoy drawing and painting as much as I had in high school. I continued on though the next semester with 1 art class so I could continue to get the scholarship with the intention of majoring in spanish. I decided after that semester though that it wasn't worth being an hour and half away from my family and friends especially when i was coming home every weekend anyways and the fact that I could get the same degree at home. So now i'm back to living at home (the only draw back, because i have 2 younger sisters, 9 and 4, my mom believes I'm a built in babysiter)and working on a degree in both middle school education and spanish.
