Re: How did you get your current job?

I was already working for a city government and worked closely with a lady in the Finance Department on payroll issues. She wanted to transfer to a new position and called me one day asking if I would like to have her job. I said... well.... ummm.... ok, if you think I can do it. I transferred the next week and have been there ever since.

Re: How did you get your current job?

I was hired full time in 1989, but before that I was part time and then part time for an exterminating service where I was in collections. Ask me about working collections for an extermination service later.

Well, to make a huge story non novel, One Wed afternoon we were raided at the exterminating place. Yes, sherrifs. Guns drawn, helliocopters, sherrifs in green windbreakers. I did not know what was happening (Well I knew the boss was into many other things besides the front of the exterminating company. It was just money laundering) So I got on the phone to call management, and a sherrif with a gun drawn on me said: "Hang UP." so I did.
We were all taken in and i was released about 5 hrs later after they realized I was clean and not a part of any other doings. (Some of the same chemecials used in fumeigating homes is used in making Meth.) The next day I had a phone call from the head office in Los Angeles with the man in red asking me if I would like to come on full time. Yes, and I"m still there and this is my anniversary month...17 yrs since August 1989.
Lord, my dream is to lose this weight and to be healthier.

Re: How did you get your current job?

I was MISERABLE in my former job ... I quit on August 15, 2005. Walked out at 2:45 p.m. on Monday.

I found my current job on a website .. this job is 2.44 miles from my house and I absolutely love it. I get to work whatever hours I want ... which means I can RUN in the mornings before work (now *that* is a perfect job) .. I can wear shorts, jeans, whatever ...the supervisors are ... well....SUPER ... next year I plan to be telecommuting ... wowzer .. its just the BEST job.

Life has very few rewards that compare to a job you love.

KKat, sometime fiasco's lead us to what is best in our lives. I have been in my carreer for 17 years now. I have gone forward and completed my degrees and certificates and I can say I am in the carreer for me. Thank the stars for the 2x4 that come and knock you in the head sometimes.

I can also say at a cocktail party, Ive been in a drug raid and I was innocent.

I agree. One terrible situation could be the stepping stone to the best!

Re: How did you get your current job?

I found my job online - I'm a project manager for the web department of a local communications agency. But otherwise, when I was job hunting, it was the agencies that got me the most interviews, and if I had to look for a job again, I would go back to one agency in particular (which is specifically tech focused).

I got my last two jobs through an employment agency and I think I'd go that route again, if possible.

My current job has sort of evolved.

I heard through the grapevine 8 years ago that universities offer free tuition for their fulltime employees. So, I set out to get a job at one in particular. I applied for 3 different positions and got hired as a staff assistant and took a $7,000/year pay CUT too. Best thing I EVER did in my life!! Here's why:

I got a free education, great health benefits, TONS of vacation time. I ended up getting noticed by the VP for Enrollment and was quickly promoted to her Administrative Assistant. Then I was promoted to Director Support Operations. Then I was put in charge of our computer systems conversion for enrollment and I was once again promoted...plus, I pretty much have proven myself and I pretty much decide for myself what I do every day. In the interim, I've also been noticed by an independent consultant who has hired me as an associate part time to go to other Colleges & Universities and train them on computer software. It's way cool, and I love it.
