  • Alito Hearings

OMG, I have been listening to these hearing for the last two days and has anyone else noticed that to a senator, they seem to be doing most of the talking, politicing and hearing themselves talk. I bet Alito has spoken maybe 1/8th of the time.
Why do we let politicians descide on that is best for us, they like to hear themselves talk and thats about all, as far as I can tell

they did that for roberts too. They even had a segment on the news about the time each senator talked. They get like 45 min each (per senator) to do their questioning and some of them talked for 40 min of the 45!!

(I'm making those numbers up, but it's something like that)

Man, and I thought I wanted to work on the Hill. Thank god I only work AROUND it. However, this reminded me of something so funny from Dave Barry's year in review (http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercu...e/13511044.htm)

. . . JULY . . . when Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announces her retirement, setting off a heated debate between right-wing groups, who think the president should appoint a conservative to replace her, and left-wing groups, who think the president should drop dead. Eventually Bush nominates a man going by the moniker of ``John Roberts,'' who, in the tradition of recent Supreme Court nominees, refuses to reveal anything about himself, and wears a Zorro-style mask to protect his secret identity. In response, Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee, led by Sen. Joe Biden, vow to, quote, ``get on television a LOT.''

        Haha, it's so true!

Lynn!!!! I guess that's why these proceedings are called "hearings" so they can hear their melodious voices drone on and on and on and on. Besides, they have to show the folks back home, they're doing more than drinking coffee and attending power lunches all day. Being blow-hards and windbags make it look like they're actually doing something worthy of their bloated salaries.

I bet if they could get away with reciting "The Song of Hiawatha" during the hearings they would do it!

These hearings would go more efficiently and we'd get a better understanding about what makes these nominees tick if they just put their rulings up on an overhead projector and go through each case asking this question:

What did you base this ruling on? Please cite case law. Please tell us your rationale behind it.

Of course, that would compell the nominee to do 98% of the talking and take the spotlight away from the politicians.

              AMEN,
They should have asked me to ask the question.
Judge Alito, what do you think about low carb diets vs low GI diets. (thats an important question you know)
Judge Alito, which do you think is the most important thing, drinking your water, staying below 20 carb or exercise.
Judge Alito, what do you think about public schools that don't provide exercise to their student but will have high junkfood diets in the cafeteria.
