Re: Here we go Steelers!!!!
I know, I want them to beat denver so that bettis can go to the superbowl. And win it, of course! ;-)
I felt bad for the colts becuase it was supposed to be 'their year' but man, the steelers just shut them down til the last quarter. Then there was that weird non-interception (Did anyone understand that call???) and the non-offsides when everyone was clearly too fast - someone should have gotten a foul one way or the other, then the fumble by bettis (egads), and blah blah. IT was a series of ugly ugly plays, it seemed. Oof.
If anyone could explain the interception thing to me I'd appreciate it. He pretty clearly caught it and pretty clearly was down with both feet, and lost it when he was getting back up. They said something about his knee not being off the ground or something? I have no idea what that meant.
Anyway, woooo!Female

Re: Here we go Steelers!!!!
The only explanation I can think of is that no one touched him when he was down. In the NFL you need contact to be declared down. So, in the refs eyes, the whole tumbling routine he did was a continuation of the play. Would have been a shame if Pittsburgh lost because of that call. Good luck next week.

Re: Here we go Steelers!!!!
The basic rule is that the player has to maintain control of the ball while making a " football move ". Losing the ball while his knee was still on the ground rules out the possibility of making a " football move ". Exactly how they define a football move is anybody's guess.
That was written by DH because although I understand, I have a hard time explaining.. lol In my opinion, he should've been able to keep it, but ehh who am I? lol~Brandi

Re: Here we go Steelers!!!!
WOO HOO Steelers
strange call for sure if they had touched him while he lay on the ground it was complete but get up and ... lose the ball andit isn't?
I'm sure the head of officials will review it as they do every game and issue a statement. I can't believe they define 2 feet down only if the sole of your foot touching since recevers drag toes all the time like the guy on the two point converstion did and that was the top of his shoe. clearly the top and side of both feet touched the ground while he possed the ball.by the book atkinseer

Re: Here we go Steelers!!!!
Okay, I asked a friend of mine and he explained that if a reception involves diving to the ground, the rules are apparantly different. Let me cut and paste what he said:
"It's a specific rule. If in the act of catching the ball you have to dive to
the ground, you MUST control the ball the entire time you are on the ground
UNTIL you are touched, the whistle blows, or you get up (fully) and run.
So in theory, you could dive and easily catch a ball. Sit on your butt holding
it for 30 minutes of game time, sit the ball on the ground, and the act of
sitting the ball on the ground makes it an incomplete pass.
So, when the ball was clearly picked, the DB rolled over and maintained control
of the ball the entire time. But in the ACT of getting up, the ball slipped out
of his hands before he could clear his second knee from the ground."
Seems like an asinine rule to me - why should it be different from a normal catch? But, there you have it.Female
