Re: Talk near the Water Cooler........

I used to work at a family owned company where the family pretty much built it from the ground up and created procedures, etc. It was frustrating when I was implementing THEIR procedures and then they'd try to circumvent them. The worst type of circumventing was when they tried to install equipment for a customer who's credit was so bad they couldn't buy the equipment anyways just because it was a sale and the customer was a pain. Yeah - that made sense. Or scheduling installations when there wasn't equipment TO be installed. Or trying to install equipment that wouldn't be functional without the correct software on it (knowingly). Then the family would harp about too much money being wasted on installations that weren't correctly done because a tech would have to go back out to the location time and again. That was where I rolled my eyes and thought: Whatever!

Re: Talk near the Water Cooler........

Thanks for the encouragement 2 big! I guess I'm just missing my unionized job back in Canada where workers and employees had more rights, and there was someone to vent to on the job if there was a problem.

I'm working at a prestigious law office (locally owned), its a really fancy office with windows (the office takes up the whole floor of a building), but the windows do not open....so the ventilation is really bad...

There is no official Human Resources person to speak to, so basically i have to keep anything to myself. The Managing partner is always in and out of the office so quickly and has no time to discuss anything.

The men have an office washroom to use with a few stalls in it and its unlocked, but us females have to go into the stairwell to use a locked bathroom only for our office poeple to use(there is only one toilet for the females), and I guess the washroom hasn't been left in immaculate condition each and every time, so this one receptionist (who is not a manager) sends this email around , a whole page long and types a whole paragraph in CAPS LIKE THIS and maybe it was meant to be comical or funny, but talking about how SHE DOESN"T LIKE SEEING FISHIES SWIMMING IN THE TOILET from YOU KNOW WHAT...etc etc...and I just felt a bit offended, not that it was me who was leaving the washroom messy or dirty, but I didn't really appreciate reading such an email first thing in the morning, or ever really...I just feel it could have been written more politely or whatever, especially coming from someone who isn't even a manager.

When I asked her nicely if she could not write such emails and just put it politely next time, she just got into a big huff with me...and then started yelling at me because two nights before that at 6 pm i was upset because there was a horrible electrical burning smell on my side of the office (the receptionist cannot even see anything that is goig on because she's out there in the reception area), and she was yelling at me about how I shouldn't have been yelling in the office when the smell came because I upset the managing partner, etc etc..... I wasn't the only one upste, my immediate lawyer/boss was upset with the smel;l too.......anyways

i think that working in these countries where there are huge differences in pay/salary based on what passport you have (westerners get paid higher than the rest for instance), probalby creates these kinds of hard feelings in the offices... i really dion't know..

I am looking for another job at the moment.... sick of the BS in my office.

Unfortunately, there's BS everywhere you go - you just got to find a job that has BS that you can stand. What a pain!!! Receptionists tend to be a pain anyways because generally it's a very simple minded job that takes a smarter person to do it. Usually you will get one of two types in this position: an airhead that can't hear the phone ringing or figure out how to route calls even after a year of experience OR you get the smarter one who can figure out how to do that and knows they have more aptitude and generally refuses to use it (if not, then she's already in the market for another job) but expects higher pay than what she is doing is worth. It's hard to find a good one that is smart enough and is happy with it being an EASY job and therefore happy with the pay.

                  lol Slim

you have the characteristics of the receptionist down pat! (i mean you know what the receptionists are like)

this receptionist is a bossy one, who tries to feel important in the office, and doesn't know a damn thing that goes on literally behind her back(as the office IS behind her back), she can't even see a damn thing either because of the way the office is laid out!

I can hardly wait to see her again tomorrow after my sick leave is finished....
